Summary of Dragonball: Volume 1

A long time ago, some distance a way, in the mountains, this story
begins...
A little boy is breaking up wood for a fire. He prays in front of a
ball, and tells his grandfather that he's going out. He wants something
to eat. Elsewhere, a girl stands beside her car, and uses a watch to
determine that she has to go west. There's no bear to eat, and it's
been a long time since the boy had fish. He uses his tail as bait, and
catches a huge fish. He's happy, and gets out on the road. The girl
almost hits him with her car, and she yells at him. The boy thinks it's
a monster, and tosses the car aside. They fight, she shoots him with a
pistol, but he doesn't die. She says that she's human, and he stops
attacking. But, she doesn't look like him (therefore, can't be human.)
She answers that he's a boy, and she's a woman. He doesn't know what
that means, not having seen anyone else in a long time. He looks for
her tail, and she laughs at this child who's wearing a tail accessory.
She explains that the thing is not a monster, it's a car. They both
travel west (he still has his fish.) She thinks he's strong, but
strange. He gets home, and tells the ball (grandfather) that he's
brought a woman here. She rushes forward to grab the "Dragon Ball," and
the boy insists that it's his grandfather. So, she pulls out another
one -- which makes it two grandfathers. The girl (she has her name --
Bulma -- on her shirt,) explains that there are 7 Dragon Balls. When
they are brought together, a giant dragon named "Shenlon" will appear
and grant one wish. But, you can only do this once a year. (Also, it
wasn't a watch, it was a Dragon Radar she was using to track down the
Balls.) The boy's is the #4 Ball, and it had taken her 10 days to find
the #5 Ball. The boy is impressed.

Buruma also knows what she's going to wish for -- a great boyfriend.
She tries to take the #4 Ball, but the boy refuses. So, she shows him
her panties as a bribe, but it doesn't work. Instead, she offers to let
him come with her to find the other Balls. They argue over this, and
she secretly plans on using the boy as her bodyguard, then sneaking in
her wish first. They set out, and Buruma shows that the Radar can tell
them where to go to find the next Ball. It's west, 1200 km away. She
complains about having her car destroyed, and asks the boy's name. He
answers "I'm called Gokuu, Son Gokuu. You are?" She says "Buruma."
He laughs at the funny name. She fumes, and pulls the #9 capsule from
her case. She tosses it, pushing the boy backwards. There's an
explosion, and the capsule becomes a motorcycle. He thinks she's a
witch, and Buruma explains that it's just the product inside her "hoipoi
capsule." (Hoi is the sound you make when you throw something, and poi
is the sound things make when you throw them.) He makes sure that it's
not a monster, and she tells him to get on in back. He likes the ride.
20 minutes later, Buruma takes a hill a little fast, and then
realizes that she needs to relieve herself. Gokuu asks where she's
going, and doesn't understand her answer. There's a scream, and he
expects to see a snake. Instead, there's a violent flying dinosaur that
ties him up and flies off to have Buruma for supper (long time since
it's had human meat.) Buruma yells at the boy to save her. He frees
himself using his tail, and tries to figure out how to follow the flying
thing -- and gets an idea. By turning the one handle, the motorcycle
makes noises. So, he's ready to go. He takes one hill too fast, but
doesn't quite get the height he needed to catch the dinosaur. Swearing,
he tells his bo to expand. He kills the dinosaur, and saves Buruma.
This is how the two of them met.

Gokuu and Buruma have set out to find the 7 Dragon Balls which will
grant them one wish...

The two banter a bit about having to travel around to find the other
Balls. But it's getting late, so they pick a spot to camp. Buruma
doesn't want to sleep under the stars, so she picks out a capsule.
Gokuu can't believe that it has a house inside, but he knows better now,
and runs away to avoid the noise that capsule makes when it explodes.
[Note: At this time, it's apparently called the Hoipoi Capsule
Corporation. Later, it's shortened down to just Capsule Corp.]
Gokuu accuses Buruma of being a witch, which she just shrugs off.
The house is big inside, too. Gokuu thinks that there's a man inside
the TV. Buruma gets a whiff of the boy, and decides that he needs a
bath. (A "bath"? What's that?) He gets a towel, but doesn't know that
he's supposed to hold in front of himself. They banter some more, and
then Buruma discovers that Gokuu's tail is not an accessory after all.
Gokuu figures that only men get to have tails, since Buruma is a woman,
and she doesn't have one. Buruma thought that men only had those in
front of them. But then, Gokuu's dead grandfather was male, and he
didn't have a tail either.

Buruma takes her bath, and then panics when she sees Gokuu watching
her. He asks what the things are on her chest, and she replies that
women have breasts. It's only ok for kids under 10 to see them. She
asks Gokuu for his age, and he replies 14. Which now makes him a
pervert. She threatens him with the police, but he's hungry and wants
to eat. However, he doesn't like her choice of food (bread and coffee,)
and goes out to eat. A while later, he brings back a caterpillar and a
dead coyote. Buruma doesn't want to share the food, so he has to eat
alone, outside. Then it's time to sleep, but she wants him to brush his
teeth first. He likes the bouncy bed, and wants to sleep with her on
it, but she doesn't like that idea (he's 14, after all.) His
grandfather slept with him, but she still doesn't go for that idea.
They talk a bit about growing up in the mountains, and in the city, and
Gokuu falls asleep in the middle of it.
In the morning, Gokuu wakes up first, and decides that it's been a
long time since he's slept on "grandfather's golden pillow" (i.e. --
between the old man's legs.) But, her crotch feels funny, so he removes
her panties, and shouts out in shock -- "No balls!!" Buruma wakes up,
but the Dragon Balls are still there. She yells at him for surprising
her like that.

Gokuu is complaining about how long Buruma is taking to get ready,
and she tells him to shut up. She's having coffee for breakfast, but he
turns that down in favor of going out and breaking up rocks as a
pick-me-up. However, one of the rocks turns out to be a big turtle.
It's surprised. Buruma wants to know what the fuss is about, and the
turtle asks for some water. Then, they discover that it's been trying
to find the sea for the last year. Looking at a map, the sea turns out
to be 120 km away. Gokuu offers to take the turtle there, and Buruma
objects. It'd take too long (30 days on foot,) she has to put on her
face first, etc. Gokuu steps off alone, until Buruma panics at being
left by herself with all of the creatures in the area.
Soon, they run into a large punk bear that demands to be given the
turtle. Buruma is willing, but Gokuu isn't. The bear threatens them,
wanting to eat the turtle, and then it's fighting time. Gokuu uses
Janken (scissors/paper) to drop the bear with "stone." The boy adds
"peace" to his victory sign, and says that he wants to keep going.
However, he also asks the turtle if it really is delicious, and the
turtle denies it emphatically.

They get to the ocean, and Toriyama has drawn himself as a robot,
hanging on a tree. The turtle and Gokuu are both astonished at seeing
the ocean, and Buruma isn't impressed. The turtle thanks them, and
swims off. Gokuu decides that he doesn't like drinking sea water.
Then, the turtle returns, with something on its back. The old man says
"good afternoon," in English, and comments on them saving his friend.
He then introduces himself as Kamesennin (turtle master.) Buruma
repeats this name, the turtle points out the one that had saved him, and
the old man gives the boy a present. He calls out for the Phoenix
(written as "undying bird") but it doesn't show up. The turtle tells
him that the phoenix has died, so the guy tries again with Kintoen. A
flying cloud shows up and the boy asks if it's something to eat.
Instead, it's something to ride. Buruma wants to know how a turtle
master would have a cloud to give away, and he brushes it off. He can't
ride the cloud, but the boy can. (Kamesennin didn't think that that was
really possible.)

Gokuu likes his present, and Buruma asks for something too. But, the
turtle states that she hadn't helped him out at all. So, the old man
will only give away something if she'll show him her panties. There's
some arguing over this, but Buruma goes for it. The old man finally
gets to see some muff, and then has to think of something to give her
(some briefs, perhaps.) Buruma sees something that she wants to look at
closer, and he says "my briefs?" No, it's the Dragon Ball he's wearing
on his neck. He'd found it in the sea about 100 years ago. She shows
the #3 Ball to Gokuu, and the old man wants to know what a Dragon Ball
is. This is the one that the radar had said was out west. The old
pervert wants another look at her panties, since they like the Ball so
much, and Buruma happily agrees. The old man wishes he had a camera,
then he wishes them well and rides off with the turtle.
They return to the house, planning on getting the fifth Ball. Then
Buruma discovers that she's not WEARING any panties. She realizes what
the old man had been seeing, and Gokuu explains what had happened.
Buruma inflicts some pain on him with a machine gun. She also wants to
ride Kintoen, but the boy says that it's HIS present. She tries anyway,
and fails. She wants to know why, whether it's punishment for being
pretty. As they ride off, she complains about the cloud being faster
than her bike.

Three days later, they come to a village that should have the fifth
Ball, but the place is deserted. They look around, trying to figure out
what's happening, and the radar shows that the Ball is indeed here. An
old man tries to protect his home, angering Gokuu by hitting him in the
head with an axe. The man apologizes to "Oolong-sama," and offers money
and food to keep Oolong from taking his only daughter. Buruma repeats
"Oolong?"

People realize that the boy is not Oolong, and there's more
apologizing. Gokuu gets punished for checking if the daughter is a woman
(by patting her crotch.) The villagers tell them about this frightening
demon, Oolong, who'd shown up yesterday demanding some women. The big
pervert would eat everyone if his demand was not met. Gokuu asks for a
description, and is told that the monster is huge and powerful. Buruma
asks if anyone has seen something like this Ball, and one old woman says
that she found one like it. Her own ancestor had found it long ago --
it's the #6 Ball. Buruma offers to have Gokuu fight Oolong in trade for
the Ball (Gokuu pleases the old woman by patting to check if she's
female -- he decides that she is.)

The next problem is getting Gokuu to Oolong, which Buruma handles by
dressing the boy up in the daughter's clothes. (He's not happy about
this.) Then, Oolong shows up for his date. Buruma tells everyone to
hide, and Gokuu to pretend to do his job. The demon is confused by the
girl's behavior (Gokuu keeps talking like a boy,) and it assumes that
she doesn't like his form. It shouts out "change," and becomes a
handsome man. (Gokuu doesn't like being propositioned. Then Buruma
steps out, greeting the hunk, saying that she's 16. Oolong asks for her
bust size -- 85 cm. The demon fantasizes about putting his face between
the 85 cm breasts of a 16-year-old girl. Then, Oolong freaks at seeing
Gokuu relieve "herself" beside a tree. The demon hates seeing men's
"things" and accuses the "girl" of not being the girl he'd seen the day
before. (Gokuu doesn't want to be patted for proof that he's a boy.)
Oolong changes to a bull, which Buruma isn't as taken by, and she runs
to hide. People panic (the old man thinks about giving the girl away to
appease the demon,) and Buruma expects Gokuu to sort things out to save
all the girls here. Oolong looks forward to a quick battle. They
square off, and the bull keeps blithering on about how the only way out
is death. However, with one look at the clock, the bull panics and runs
away. Behind a fence, it changes into a pig (which is Oolong's real
form) wearing a communist Chinese outfit. Gokuu asks the pig where the
bull went, and runs off to follow the pig's directions.

[NOTE: The box describes Oolong's power: He can only remain in
changed form for 5 minutes. After that, he has to return to his normal
shape and rest for 1 minute before changing again.]

People wonder what happened, Gokuu returns, having failed to find the
bull. One minute has passed, and the pig desperately wants his woman.
So, he becomes a "strong" war robot and threatens the hero. However,
the hot water in the bowl burns his thumb, and things get out of hand.
There's more bantering, and Gokuu has to prove his strength by breaking
3 bricks with just one finger. Oolong panics, and turns into a vampire
bat to fly away. Buruma yells at the hero to capture Oolong to make the
girls safe. He calls for Kintoen, and the villagers wonder if things
will be alright. Oolong is pissed at having to leave the village, then
alarmed at seeing that he's being pursued. He becomes a bomb, and
almost gets away before the 5 minutes runs out. Gokuu asks if the pig
is really Oolong, and pig asks who the hell this boy is. Back in town,
people are amazed to see Oolong's real form, and they insult him for their
troubles. He apologizes, and secretly curses to himself. The old woman
gives Buruma the Ball. He takes them to his estate, where he had taken
all of his other victims. The parents run inside, only to find that
their daughters aren't interested in leaving. Oolong complains that he
needed to get more girls to cover for the expenses of their luxurious
lifestyle (apparently, for the ransoms.)

The group is after the last two Balls, and Gokuu asks why Oolong was
brought along. Buruma answers that the pig may be useful, to which
Oolong says that he doesn't want to travel with them. However, the
possibility that Buruma may strip down because today is so warm, causes
the pig to consider taking a short vacation after all. Gokuu checks to
see if Oolong is male. (Which should be obvious, because he likes girls
so much.)

They go upstream for 3 days, and the two guys get bored. Buruma
tells them that the next Ball is probably on Mount Frypan. This
panics Oolong, who tells them that this is the place of the great Gyuu
Maou (Cow Wizard.) Oolong changes into a fish to escape, and Gokuu is
going to give chase, but Buruma knows of a better way of catching the
little pervert. She uses her still-warm panties. Oolong curses. Gokuu
states that if Oolong tries to escape again, he'll eat the guy. Buruma
gives the pig a plum-drop in place of the panties, and Gokuu wants one
too. However, she doesn't think Gokuu deserves one, and the pig claims
that it's just because he's more of the type that women like. They run
out of gas, and Oolong has to change into an oar.

Eventually, they land, and Oolong wants a pair of panties for his
own. Buruma protests, then discovers that she doesn't have her capsule
case. It must have happened when Oolong turned into a fish. Gokuu
doesn't understand her crying -- she lost her house, car, and bike. He
thinks that things are ok, but Buruma says that's because he has
Kintoen. Gokuu suggests that Oolong change into a bike, and she likes
that idea. However, Oolong has escaped. There's no way he's going to
the mountain without getting a pair of panties in return. Gokuu can't
find him, but Buruma knows of another dirty trick -- she calls out 'pee
pee pee." This is a way of making pigs go to the toilet; turns out that
the plum-drop was a prune-drop, hence the effect of the "pee pee" call.
(The effect works for one month.) If he doesn't return, she'll use the
trick again. He comes back, apologizing for trying to escape.
Oolong bitches about this, and Gokuu thinks it's great fun calling
out "pee pee." Buruma tells the pig to change into a bike, but gets a
scooter. Which can't hold her weight. He tells her about the 5 minute
time limit, and since she wants him to turn into something to ride, he
becomes a pair of panties. Instead, they walk.

Gokuu is disgusted with Oolong and Buruma (she's about to die.) It's
a long way to Frypan, and the two give up where they stand. Buruma
wants to find a hotel or ryoukan. Since neither place exists here, she
throws a tantrum, and falls asleep. Oolong's also going to nap, and Gokuu
is hungry. Some distance away, a cat spots them, and tells his friend
that there's a duck out there. Yamcha chuckles -- it's been a while
since they've had wild game. He checks their prey -- just the boy and
the pig. They probably don't have money, but might have capsules.
Yamcha tells Pool to get the jet scooter. Oolong is getting hungry, and
Gokuu is about to search for food, pausing to ask if roast pork is ok.
Then, the bad guys, Yamcha and Pool arrive to fight.

The human introduces himself as the hyena Yamcha, and the cat calls
himself Pool. They'll let the boy and pig live in exchange for money or
capsules. Oolong says, "Hey, you're the crybaby Pool!?" They'd studied
together at the shape-changing school, where Oolong had stolen the
teacher's panties. They insult each other, and Yamcha demands the
money, quickly. The pig makes sure that Gokuu really is strong, then
says that Yamcha will have to fight for the money. The man promises to
send them to heaven. Gokuu doesn't understand why he has to fight (he
hasn't learned about the value of money, yet.)

Gokuu tells his bo to expand, getting in a good hit. The two
animals root for their humans, and Yamcha asks where the boy got the bo
from, (my grandfather) and asks for the guy's name (Son Gohan.) Turns
out that Yamcha and Oolong both heard about this famous old dead guy who
was really good at hand-to-hand fighting. It's been a long time since
Yamcha has had a good fight, and he attacks with Rougafuufuu-ken.
Oolong is impressed, Pool calls out his friend's name, and Gokuu is
pounded around (he's weak from hunger.) Oolong is about to get beaten
up, when he decides to change into a fly to escape. Pool is told to
stop the fly. Now, Yamcha demands payment, and gets an M-size capsule,
which is apparently worth lots of money.

Complaining of hunger, Gokuu gets up and prepares for revenge.
Yamcha is surprised that the boy is still alive, and plans on using
Ryoufuufuu again. Gokuu does well with janken, but succumbs to his lack
of food, as Buruma wakes up, complaining about the noise. Yamcha
freezes at the sight of a woman, and has Pool help him escape for the
moment (they lost the capsule, too.) Buruma wants to know who the
hunk was. Back at the hideout, Yamcha is brooding over the hateful
presence of a woman.

The group is inside the camper that Oolong had in capsule form.
Buruma is bitching about it not having been used before. She asks for
the bathroom, Oolong points it out, then complains about how much Gokuu
is eating. Buruma notices the shower and western-style toilet, and
tells the pig to not spy on her. He has his own plans, then has to get
pajamas for her.

At the hideout, Yamcha is plotting to get the capsule back. But,
there's the woman to contend with -- Yamcha has a plan for that. If
Pool turns into the pig and lures the woman out, Yamcha can sneak in and
get the capsule. Inside the camper, Oolong asks what this trip is all
about, and gets told about the Dragon Balls. Outside, Yamcha realizes
that the capsule was a "house wagon." They get closer, and he hears the
woman's voice. Pool assumes that the other two are asleep. When Yamcha
sees Buruma naked, taking a shower, his brain freezes, and Pool asks
what's wrong. Buruma heard something, and Yamcha says that this is a
bad dream. Then, they overhear the brat and the pig talking about
having 5 of the Balls, (the 6th is at Frypan) and when all seven are
together, you get any one wish you like. Yamcha takes Pool off to the
side where they can rant about what they heard. If he can make a wish,
he'll ask for a woman. Pool asks about the piles of money and stuff,
and Yamcha thinks those are great too, but he'd rather get married.
Pool doesn't understand.

Oolong is getting bored, and Gokuu starts describing the dragon
that's supposed to appear with the Balls. But, Oolong would rather see
a woman. The boy states that if you see the dragon, you can wish for a
woman. The pig likes that idea, but Gokuu doesn't understand WHY you'd
want a woman. He's describing Buruma when she shows up (no balls or
penis.) She's upset because Oolong gave her his pajamas, and just has
to settle for sleeping in her clothes. Then, Oolong gives them
after-shower juice to relax. He makes sure that Gokuu drinks too (the
boy doesn't like the stuff.) Buruma gets directions to the bed, and
makes sure that both guys know that they're supposed to sleep
downstairs. The drugged juice takes effect, and the pig gets ready to
go after the woman. Outside, Pool tells Yamcha where the others are,
and then turns into a key to open the cab door. The guy rushes in,
ready to attack Gokuu, but the boy is out cold. Pool states that the pig
is also upstairs. So, the cat is to turn into the boy, and lure the woman
outside. Yamcha tells Pool that he looks perfect.

Upstairs, Oolong hears something as he's about to get under the
sheets. He panics at seeing Gokuu (obviously, the drug didn't work) and
he hides Buruma before changing into a very ugly copy of her (Pool
can't tell the difference.) "Gokuu" asks about Oolong, who's apparently
gone out for a stroll. "Gokuu" asks "Buruma" to go outside, and they do
that, with "Gokuu" commenting on Oolong having gone for his stroll.
This gives Yamcha time to search for the Dragon Balls, which are
probably on the second floor with the woman's stuff. Outside, "Buruma"
is wondering where they're going, and is cursing at this distraction.
The bed looks lumpy, so the Balls must be there. Yamcha rips off the
covers. Oolong gets impatient and demands to know what's going on.
Pool changes and apologizes, and Oolong recognizes him and changes as
well. But, if this is Oolong, that means... Pool rushes to save his
friend. The man is busy counting breasts in his mind.

In the morning, Oolong is testy, not having gotten any sleep while he
was standing guard against Yamcha. Buruma's head is pounding, and she
wants her clothes back. Gokuu points out that pig had been watching for
the bad guy from yesterday, which cheers the girl up. Gokuu is hungry
and eats the rest of one month's worth of food. Oolong told Buruma
where to look for clean clothes, and she's upset at having to wear a
playboy bunny outfit. She complains about perverts, and declares that
the pig is coming with them to Mount Frypan. They drive off while
Buruma is busy making up her face, just in case.

Yamcha and Pool follow in the Mighty Mouse (an old bugatti) to get
the Balls. Oolong sees the villains, and Yamcha's about to fire the
bazooka (he calls it the Puncher Fist) when Buruma runs to get a look at
the guy. The camper is hit and falls on its side. (Somehow) Pool knows
that Buruma has been knocked out. Gokuu is mad, and Yamcha demands the
Balls. Oolong wants to know how they learned about that, and Gokuu acts
defiant (scaring Oolong.) Yamcha and Gokuu rush forward, taunting each
other. Then they fight. Yamcha loses a tooth, which screws up his
face, and he runs away. Gokuu is confused, but Oolong praises him a
lot. However, they don't have transportation anymore. Some distance
away, Yamcha curses the brat, and decides that he'll let the others find
the Balls, and then take them away at the last moment.
Oolong offers to carry the still-unconscious Buruma. Then, Yamcha
pulls up in his car, apologizes for the mistake, and gives them a
capsule in return. It's a car. Yamcha leaves, and Oolong checks the
car for bombs and traps. Then, the heroes head for Frypan, with Yamcha
following them on radar.

Two days later, the group is still trying to find the mountain. It's
hot, and tempers are short. They find it, but the entire mountain is on
fire. Oolong won't go any further, because Gyuu-Maou lives there. He
has to explain that Gyuu-Maou is a terrible creature that kills everyone
that gets to close to his home. On top of the mountain is the
Gyuu-Mao's castle, and the Dragon Ball. They argue a bit, and Oolong
tries to escape in the car. Buruma calls out "Pee pee pee" again,
forcing the pig to take a dump in the bushes. Oolong decides to stick
around, after all.

Yamcha halts a ways back, and realizes that the 6th Ball must be in
Gyuu-Mao's castle. Pool tries to warn him of the danger. Yamcha is
trying to figure out what to do (he knows about some connection between
Gyuu-Maou and Kamesennin,) when a girl runs up, chased by a dinosaur.
She keeps screaming as she reduces the monster to charred flesh with her
helmet-mounted beam weapon. She's still scared, and Yamcha is
dumbfounded, as she sees Pool and Yamcha. She attacks again, narrowly
missing the villain. Yamcha gets angry, and drops her like a brick.
They continue to Frypan, and Pool comments on Yamcha's ability to cope
with little girls (Yamcha replies that he doesn't suffer from a Lomita
Complex.)

Buruma confirms that the Ball is in the castle, and tells Gokuu to
get it. The boy stops looking for people (while checking out all the
skulls) and calls for Kintoen. The terrified Oolong tells the boy to
not shout so loud. Gokuu flies off (with the other two hoping he'll
find the Ball and return fast,) and is impressed with the flames. But,
it's too hot for him to land. Oolong comments on this, and Buruma
insults the boy, while a shadow with an axe looms behind them.
Gyuu-Maou wants to know what they want, and Gokuu returns to say that he
can't sneak into the castle. Gokuu asks who the old man is, and Buruma
tells him. The guy recognizes Kintoen, and asks if they know
Kamesennin. Gokuu thinks so, and Gyuu-Maou pleads for them to find a
way to get to Kamesennin's house.

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 2

The Magical Cow King (Gyuu Maou) needing help in putting out the
fires of Mt. Frypan. Gokuu rushes out to get Kamesennin, who will only
do the job if Buruma willshow him her breasts. Kamesennin then bulks
up (putting Sylvester Stalone to shame,) and uses Kamehame-ha (a power blast)
to not only putout the fires, but to accidentally destroy the mountain at the
same time. Buruma coerces Oolong into changing into her double to fulfill her part
of the bargain in her place. Gyuu Maou offers his daughter to Gokuu,
and Yamcha hurriedly rushes back to administer to the girl that he'd
beaten up in the first volume. Chi Chi doesn't understand why two men
(boys, really,) appear, knowing her name within an hour of each other,
but is flattered at finding out that she has a boyfriend (she just
doesn't know who the boyfriend is.)
Kamesennin states that it took him 50 years to master Kamehame-ha,
but Gokuu picks it up right away, then understands everything when Gyuu
Maou calls Gokuu by name. [Note: Kamesennin travels to Mt. Frypan via
Baby Gamera, and gets so dizzy that he throws up.] The rubble of the
mountain contains a Dragon Ball, bringing Buruma's total up to 6.
Buruma, Gokuu, and Oolong continue on to find the last ball (Buruma uses
her Dragon Radar to locate it,) with Yamcha and Pool following closely
behind. They arrive in Usagi-dan (Usagi == Rabbit) for a silly
side-story. Oyabun needs to touch someone to turn them into a carrot,
and has his goons beat up Gokuu. Yamcha is forced to help Gokuu, so
that Buruma can be restored and can find the last Dragon Ball for him.
At the end, Gokuu uses his staff to take Oyabun and goons to the moon
(the joke is the Japanese equivalent of the western "man in the moon":
"The rabbit pounding mochi on the moon.")

As the gang continues on, not knowing that Pilaf has the last Ball,
they are ambushed. Pilaf's sidekick takes the Balls that Buruma had
found, and all her capsules, but misses the Ball that Gokuu claims
contains the soul of his grandfather. Pilaf allows the group to enter
his castle, so that he can entrap them. His plan to use an "etchie
attack" against Buruma backfires: the attack is simply to blow kisses at
her, and Buruma is expecting a whole lot worse. Pilaf uses sleeping gas
on his prisoners (and himself.) But, his sidekicks do manage to find
the Ball Gokuu is carrying, and they go outside to summon the Great
Dragon God to let Pilaf make his wish for world domination.
Gokuu uses Kamehame-ha to make a small hole in the prison wall, which
allows Pool and Oolong to change into bats and escape. Oolong, the coward
that he is, wants to run away, when he realizes that the first person to
make a demand of the Dragon God wins. So, as Pilaf is stuttering away,
Oolong yells out that he wants a pair of panties. He gets his wish, the
Dragon disappears, and the Balls fly off in separate directions.
Everyone is disappointed to find out that the wish can only be
made once a year. Pilaf imprisons the group in a cell with metal walls
and a skylight. By noon the next day, the heat will be so great that the
group will die. This is when Gokuu tells his friends about
were-monkeys. As a joke, he looks at the full moon. Everyone else is
relieved when nothing happens. Right away. Gokuu turns into a monster
monkey, trashes Pilaf's castle, and nearly kills people on both sides.
Yamcha remembers that grabbing Gokuu's tail had caused the boy to go
limp, so he tries this on the monster, and Pool cuts the tail off.
Gokuu immediately reverts and falls asleep. When he comes to, he takes
the loss of his tail calmly, but has also lost his sense of balance.
Afterwards, he runs to the rubble of Pilaf's castle to recover his
staff. During which, Buruma and Yamcha bemoan the foiling of their
plans to find lovers -- before realizing that each was made for the
other.

Buruma and Yamcha plan on getting to know each other better, but drag
Pool and Oolong along for the ride. Gokuu wants to get the Dragon Balls
back, so that he can bring his grandfather back to life. Gokuu flies
off to Kamesennin's island, because the old man apparently knows
something about Gokuu's past. But, the old pervert is busy watching
an aerobics show. Gokuu learns about Giri giri girls (they're very
"healthy") and he runs off to get a very "healthy" girl for the old man.
End of volume.

Highly recommended to people with "discriminating tastes"...

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 3

As Kamesennin is trying to teach Gokuu (Gokuu does
eventually learn to distinguish between ugly and beautiful faces, but
not beautiful women and beautiful mermaids,) a new guy shows up.
Kuririn arrives at the island to ask Kamesennin to teach him fighting
techniques; however, his entrance marks him more as a buffoon than a
serious combat master. He bribes Kamesennin with a dirty magazine, and
then goes with Gokuu to find a true giri giri girl. But, Kintoun only
supports people that are pure of heart, and Kuririn has to hold onto
Gokuu for the entire trip (along the way, he discovers that Gokuu can't
tell men and women apart unless he can see their private parts. Kuririn
hastily assures Gokuu that he is indeed male.) Below them, a feisty
woman on a mono-scooter is evading the police until her hair tickles her
nose and she sneezes. The frightened girl that takes her place then
calls for help. Gokuu and Kuririn decide that Ranchi would make a great
giri giri girl, and rescue her (notice that Ranchi has no trouble riding
Kintoun.)
At the island, Kamesennin is delighted to see that Ranchi isn't
hitting him when he stares at her, and has her change into "the
Kamesennin uniform." To support the gag, he and the two runts are also
wearing the lingerie when Ranchi steps back out. Then, disaster strikes
and the group learns about Ranchi's "dark-side." Because he's going to
train the two kids, the dirty old man moves the house to a larger
island, and has Ranchi explain what the sneezing is all about (not much
explanation, though -- it just happens that way.)
The first part of the first day's training is to see who's the
fastest: Kuririn's dash is about 10 seconds; Gokuu's is 11 seconds, but
with a replacement for his torn shoes, he comes in around 8 seconds.
Kamesennin blows them both away at 5+ seconds. The second part is a
little contest, where the one who finds the rock with "turtle" written
on it, within 30 minutes, gets to eat supper. Kuririn resorts to
cheating several times, and wins.
The next day, Kamesennin has the boys pick up a milk delivery, and
while hopping, skipping, and zigzagging, makes the two drop the milk
bottles off at people's houses. The last house on the route is at the
top of a big hill, and Kamesennin gracefully allows the boys to walk up
the stairs, instead of running. The owner of the house, a priest, tells
us that the combat that the boys are training for, which takes place in
8 months, is the Tenkaichi Budoukai. From this point on, we get to see
Kuririn and Gokuu training both their bodies, and minds (Gokuu hates
having to do language lessons.) To work on physical strength,
Kamesennin tells them to push against a large rock. Gokuu manages to
unexpectedly move it, so Kamesennin points out a monster rock for them
to work on. When the training becomes too easy, he has his students
wear 40 pound turtle shells on their backs. Finally, with a month to
go, Gokuu rushes into the house, excitedly. He takes the old man to the
monster rock, and pushes it a few yards. Kuririn does this too, and
Kamesennin thinks to himself "I just told them to do that as a JOKE..."
Since they've gotten so strong, he gives them 90 pound turtle shells to
wear.
When the time comes, Gokuu and Kuririn get to remove the shells, and
are told to jump up. They're VERY surprised to find out how strong
they've become. Dressed up, and ready to go, the three fighters fly off
to combat. At the fight ring, both Gokuu and Kuririn expect to be
easily defeated by one of the many other contestants (note: the uniforms
Kamesennin gives them have the kanji for turtle on the front, pronounced
"Kame".) Kuririn's first match is against one of the two bullies from
his hometown (he kept on getting beaten up at home, which is why he left
to train under Kamesennin.) His victory is very gratifying.
In the middle of the competition, there is a commercial break,
advertising the fact that book 4 is now on sale.
Gokuu and Kuririn easily win their elimination rounds, and eventually
there are only 8 people left in the competition -- which includes
Yamcha, and a strangely familiar man named Jackie Chun. Gokuu doesn't
recognize Yamcha right away, because Buruma had made him cut his long,
flowing hair. Also in the audience are Buruma, Pool, and Oolong; these
three cheer for Yamcha, Gokuu, and Kuririn.
The other fighters are:
Bactarian: A "dirty" fighter in both senses of the word.
Namu: A mystic from a place that looks like India.
Ranfawn: Beautiful, seductive, and a mean street fighter.
Jackie Chun: Master martial artist.
Gilan: A rubber-suit monster.
Kuririn nearly loses to Bactarian, but eventually rallies, and defeats
the louse with a fart of his own.

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 4

Jackie had wanted to face Ranfawn, but was paired
against Yamcha, and wins his match. Ranfawn uses her feminine
wiles, but Namu is desperately hoping to win the cash prize so that he
can buy water for his dying village -- Namu overcomes his moral sense,
and knocks her out. Yamcha thinks that Jackie's "dirty-old-man"
reaction to the girl is somehow familiar, and he accuses Chun of being
Kamesennin. Gokuu fights Gilan, who uses a rubber phlegm to entrap our
hero. As Gilan swoops in for the kill, Gokuu gets his tail free, and
finally his entire body. Realizing that he's about to be pounded into a
pulp, Gilan forfeits the round.
There is now an interview with "the two kids," Gokuu and Kiririn.
When asked how old he is, Gokuu gets it wrong. After, Jackie complains
about not being interviewed himself, takes the mike, and breaks into a
"dirty old man" rap (in the TV series, this is really funny.) Gokuu
joins in.

In round two, Kiririn faces Jackie Chun. He's getting beaten badly,
but some of the action is going by so fast that the announcer asks the
two to recreate one of the attacks in slow-motion. Then, Kiririn tries
using "the panty attack." Chun's reaction convinces Yamcha that Jackie
and Kamesennin are the same person. Jackie is knocked out of the ring,
and has to use Kamehame-ha to propel himself back. This sends the
announcer into a fit, since Kamesennin is the only person in the world
capable of using it -- Jackie now makes it two (although, Yamcha
knows better.) One of Jackie's other tricks is the "fake image": when
you move away so fast that it looks like you're still standing in place.
Finally, Kiririn charges Jackie, and is simply knocked out.
Yamcha confronts Jackie, first accusing the old pervert of having fake
hair, and then having a fake head. When Gokuu tries checking Chun's
scent, they discover that Chun uses perfume.

In his round, Gokuu faces Namu, and uses the "fake image" technique
himself. Yamcha is impressed at Gokuu's ability to pick up a skill like
that, but Jackie is more impressed that Namu is not deceived by it.
Gokuu tries a "whirlwind" attack that nearly succeeds except that Gokuu
gets so dizzy that he makes himself sick. Eventually, he does win
through sheer speed and power. Namu gracefully accepts the fact that
he's let his village down, but feels that a miracle has occurred when
Jackie gives him a "rain-maker" capsule and tells him that Jackie really is
Kamesennin. Chun explains that to win the competition requires that you
do more than just fight. Gokuu and Kiririn are strong, but
inexperienced, so Chun is there to teach them how to win. To return
Jackie's favor, and to further confuse the issue, Namu impersonates
Kamesennin in the crowd, completely fooling Yamcha.
The last round starts with Gokuu opposite Jackie Chun. Jackie
attacks full-out, and gets in a good kick. He's sure that he's won, but
Gokuu uses his tail to fly back into the ring. Gokuu suggests having a
Kamehame-ha contest, and Jackie doesn't believe that the shrimp knows
how to use that attack. But, Gokuu wins by a slight margin, and Chun
uses his "fake image" attack ("wan pataan" = "one pattern") but upgrades
it to be two patterns. Gokuu does him one better with a "three pattern"
attack. The blow to his head is so strong, that Jackie nearly gives
away his secret identity. Which is when he decides to try his "drunken
fighting" style. This works quite well, but Gokuu recognizes it as
something his dead grandfather had mastered, and wants to know how
Jackie had learned it. Jackie remains silent, continuing his attack,
when Gokuu decides to implement his "crazy fighting" style. However, he
gets one of the kanji wrong and it becomes "mad dog" style (which makes
Jackie even angrier.) The book ends at this point.

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 5

Gokuu decides to try using monkey style combat, and succeeds until
Jackie gets mad enough to try hypnotizing him. This puts Gokuu out, and
everyone is convinced he's going to lose. Then, Buruma yells out
"Gokuu, supper!" The announcer has to assure the boy that supper will
be served when the meet is over, which makes Gokuu that much more
resolved to win. He then uses "Janken" style, a technique where you make
an attack sound that matches the punch or kick you use. Jackie easily
counters the attacks, and Gokuu is convinced that the old man had known
his dead grandfather (since the deceased man was the one who'd taught
janken to Gokuu.) Gokuu says that he's going to use janken again,
and Jackie tells him that nothing will change -- but he gets punched in
the nose; Gokuu called out "ba" while making a "gu" attack.
[Note: Janken is actually the Japanese name for "scissors/paper/stone."
Gokuu punches (stone) and Jackie counters (paper.)]
This makes Chun furious. He invokes Bankokubikkurishou, a lightning
attack that stands a good chance of killing Gokuu. Chun demands that
Gokuu surrender, which Gokuu won't do despite the pain and warnings of
his certain death. Then, Gokuu looks up and sees the full moon. The
lightning attack has no effect on the were-monkey, which starts trashing
the grounds, (Jackie is startled, because Kamesennin hadn't heard about
this side of Gokuu before.) While the spectators run away in fear,
Jackie starts a full-power Kamehame-ha. Yamcha rushes forward to stop
what looks like Chun's killing blow. Too late. The blast knocks
everyone back, and when they've recovered, Gokuu is gone. People accuse
Jackie of being a murderer, until he points out a space in the rubble
where Gokuu, reverted back to human form, is peacefully sleeping.
Jackie states that he wasn't aiming at the boy, but rather at the moon
(which is no longer in the sky.)

Shaken, the announcer needs some prompting to start the count, and
starts just before Gokuu wakes up again (Jackie complains about this.)
Gokuu is willing to continue fighting in the nude, but is convinced to
dress in Kuririn's outfit. Both fighters are wearing down: Gokuu is
starving, and Jackie had used up his Kamehame-ha power. Gokuu's
Kamehame-ha is still strong enough to make Chun jump back, and he's
vulnerable to the kick that sends him out of the ring. It looks like
Jackie has lost, and everyone is declaring Gokuu the winner when the old
man asks the announcer to come over to his edge of the ring. Turns out
that Jackie's foot is embedded in the ring's wall, and he hasn't yet
touched the grass. So, the fight continues. There's only one chance
left for Jackie to win, and it occurs when Gokuu agrees to a
hand-to-hand attack. They leap forward, and kick each other in the
face. Looks like Gokuu is still in better shape, but he does collapse
completely -- Jackie was counting on his longer legs giving him a slight
edge when the impact occurred.

Gokuu loses, and Jackie Chun is declared the winner of the
Tenkaichi-Budoukai. It's a fair fight, and no one has any hard
feelings. Jackie accepts the 500,000 zenii prize before leaving. Gokuu
suffers a hunger strike. Kamesennin quickly changes out of his disguise
(the hair glue really hurts when he rips off the wig) and meets up with
the group. Gokuu and Kuririn fill in the details of the fight, and they
decide to have supper with Kamesennin paying the tab (Gokuu is happy.)
The final bill comes to 470,000 zennii.

As people discuss their plans (Buruma and Yamcha invite everyone to
come with them,) Kamesennin states that he's going back home, and Gokuu
tells them that he's going off to find the Dragon Ball that contains his
grandfather's soul. Kintoen arrives to whisk off our hero as the rest
wish him good luck. Afterwards, the van runs out of gas.
Some time later, Gokuu wakes up to drink some water, and to use the
Dragon Radar he'd received from Buruma. But, there are other people
looking for the Ball... Two men from Red Ribbon, under Silver's
command, are also out searching the dessert. Gokuu treats them as a
joke, until they start shooting at him. Gokuu finds the Ball, which
isn't the exact one he wants, and flies off. The men radio Silver, and
he rushes outside his field office to use a LAW to destroy Kintoen.
Gokuu doesn't know what Red Ribbon is, and doesn't care. So, Silver
steals Gokuu's bag containing the Ball and Dragon Radar, but Gokuu
steals it back. This prompts Silver to happily start fighting, but he
gets trashed.

Since Kintoen no longer exists, Gokuu decides to try using one of the
RR capsules. The first one gives him a service robot, which tells him
what capsule to try second. This gives Gokuu a plane that the robot
then flies for him.

In the Red Ribbon HQ, Red Sousui is talking to his aide about getting
all of the Dragon Balls. A minion runs into state that one of the
Dragon Balls is moving towards Silver's base. After repeated tries,
they get Silver on the radio and are told about Son Gokuu. They also
suspect that "the brat" also has a Dragon Radar like they do. The two
Balls are moving into the arctic region, towards White Shogun, and he's
to be told to kill the kid.

Back in the airplane with the kid, Gokuu is freezing; robots don't
feel the cold. The Ball is below them, when the robot crashes. White
Shogun, in his Muscle Tower, receives a call about the crashed plane.
He looks forward to trashing the "baka-brat," as his men conduct the
search.

The girl (doesn't seem to have a name this early on in the story,)
has brought the near-frozen Gokuu to her home, where her mother helps
him recover. They want to know why he was out in the snow, and then
recoil in fear when he mentions that he's looking for the Dragon Ball.
Seems that Red Ribbon has kidnapped Jingle village's headmaster in their
attempts to find the Ball themselves. Gokuu reassures the two that he's
just trying to find his Grandfather's Ball, when two men find the trail
leading to the house and break in. After quickly trashing the two
soldiers, Gokuu rushes out to rescue the headmaster from Muscle Tower.
He rushes back in, suffering from the cold again. He's dressed in the
girl's winter clothes, and finds out that the white stuff outside is
called "snow." He thinks it's weird stuff. The girl thinks that Gokuu
is a weird boy, and her mother expects him to die violently. Then Gokuu
is off again.

White is impressed at how quickly the brat has taken out his men, and
wonders whether he can get past the Tower's guards to reach the top
floor. While trying to figure out where the headmaster is, White comes
over the PA to ask what Gokuu wants -- to find the headmaster. White
thinks that Gokuu has come from the village, and then invites him in.
The guards on the second floor get permission to kill the boy, but fail.
All this fighting makes Gokuu hot, so he takes off the winter gear, and
heads up to the third floor. Both White and Murasaki are impressed, but
the ninja claims that although Metallic will probably win, there's no
way the intruder can get by his 4th floor command. Metallic points out
the stairs to the next level, and then states that Gokuu has to get past
him first. Gokuu's early attacks leave him thinking that the Tower is
not a challenge (he yells out "Fighto" in victory, which is probably a
parody of some of the high caffeine energy booster drink (AKA -- "genki"
drinks) commercials on Japanese TV.) Metallic makes a come back, and
Murasaki is timing the length of the battle. Gokuu is glad that he had
a chance to practice for the Tenkaichi-Budoukai first. Then Metallic
fires a mouth-missile that everyone thinks has hit Gokuu.

Gokuu decides to try Kamehame-ha, jumps out to
show that he's still alive, and attacks. This blows off Metallic's
head, but doesn't destroy the robot. Gokuu thinks that the creature's
soul is still hanging around, and starts praying for the spirit to not
haunt him. Gokuu still can't figure out what's happening, and White
tells everyone that Metallic is a robot. White orders Metallic to kill
Gokuu, but the robot's batteries choose this moment to run down. Gokuu
rushes upstairs before the robot can recover, and White yells at his
ninja to get down to the 4th floor to defend it.

On the next level, Gokuu is stunned to find a forest growing inside a
building. Then the throwing spikes hit the ground in front of him.
Murasaki boasts about his skills as a ninja, and tells us that Gokuu is
going to die very quickly. (Note, both Murasaki and White refer to
themselves as "Ore-sama," or "the honorable Mr. Me.") While Murasaki is
bragging about his invisibility, Gokuu picks up a rock and throws it
into the trees. Murasaki decides to try this a second time, throws out
a smoke bomb, and challenges Gokuu to find him. Gokuu does this with no
trouble, because the ninja has grabbed the wrong piece of camouflage (the
American flag.) So, Murasaki makes one last go at hiding from the boy,
telling him to count to thirty before coming to find him. Gokuu can't
remember what comes after 18, and catches Murasaki trying to sneak under
a fake rock. Murasaki complains that Gokuu has ruined his best ninja
technique (Gokuu agrees that the fake looks just like the real thing,
but still wants to know what comes after 18.) The ninja gets up to 23
before saying that counting is not one of the techniques required by
ninja. He tells Gokuu to just count up to 30, which Gokuu succeeds at
on the second try. This time, the whistling of the air through a reed
gives the over-confident ninja away (this water-hiding technique is
undetectable.) Murasaki complains that Gokuu had almost killed him with
the hot water poured down the tube, before challenging Gokuu to a foot
race. Since ninja don't play fair, he uses caltrops to gain an edge.
Gokuu responds by wearing wooden geta, and outdistances his opponent.
White thinks that Murasaki's power is all in his head.

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 6

Murasaki escalates the battle, to be badly humiliated with a bo up
his butt (Gokuu laughs saying that they now both have tails.) When his
sword breaks, the ninja throws a boomerang before challenging the brat
to a fist fight. Hit from behind, Gokuu drops, Murasaki gloats, and
Gokuu gets back up. Some shiraiken are thrown out, and gathered up,
then both fighters run into Murasaki's hut. The ninja uses a
ninja-tatame-mat-blocking technique on the shiraiken, but forgets that
while he has four mats, Gokuu has 6 throwing stars. They run back
outside, where Murasaki uses a floating-walker to cross his
piranha-filled lake (which Gokuu just leaps over.) This forces the
ninja to pull out his final ace: 5 replicates of himself. Gokuu thinks
that each one is a fake, except that each copy has a killing attack of
his own. Then Murasaki states that the copies are all the real things,
so Gokuu beats them all up (when Gokuu uses his one-pattern technique,
he tells the clone that the real Gokuu is behind him.) Finally,
Murasaki panics and runs upstairs to release Zombie #8 (Jinzouningen
8-go.)
#8 is described as very fast, and very strong. But, everyone is
surprised when #8 says that he can't attack Gokuu. #8 considers
violence to be a bad thing, and refuses to fight even when Murasaki
pulls out a remote control switch that can trigger a bomb placed in the
monster's chest. Murasaki runs to the other side of the tower to blow
up the recalcitrant monster, and Gokuu leaps across to destroy the
control and uses janken style to wipe out the ninja. #8 calls Gokuu his
#1 friend, and asks for Gokuu's name. #8 doesn't have any other name
than Zombie #8, and is happy to hear that the boy is trying to rescue
the village's headmaster. The two go up to the next level, through a
maze (in the TV series, the maze is much more important,) and past a
section of the tower that can't be accessed via any known doorways.
Gokuu refers to him as Hatchan, and #8 likes it enough to declare
"hatchan" as his new name. Finally, they reach the top level, and White
Shogun. He greets the two friends, and presses the trap door button to
drop Gokuu and Hatchan into the sealed off area occupied by...
Gokuu lands lightly on his feet, and Hatchan lands heavily on Gokuu
("Son Gokuu, are you dead?") White Shogun gives Gokuu a chance to
surrender the Dragon Balls, and Dragon Radar, but Gokuu refuses. So
White says that he'll watch them die via video monitor. Hatchan is
concerned that Gokuu has a Dragon Ball, and asks if his new friend is
going to do something bad with it ala Red Ribbon. Gokuu reassures him,
as the wall raises to reveal the invincible monster -- Gomu.
Hatchan is frightened, White and Gokuu are happy, and the monster
attacks. Gokuu can't understand why his attacks have no effect, but
neither side is really winning. In desperation, Gokuu tries
Kamehame-ha, which also fails. White offers Gokuu one last chance to
give up the Dragon Ball and Radar, but Gokuu declines. Then Gomu tries
eating Hatchan. Gokuu saves his friend, but things are looking grim
when Gokuu suddenly remembers what the girl had said after she'd rescued
him from the freezing cold (about being like a block of ice.) The boy
calmly walks over to the wall, punches a hole, asks if Hatchan can feel
the cold (he can't,) then jumps inside the zombie's coat to watch Gomu
freeze up. Gokuu leaps out of the jacket just long enough to punch
Gomu, and then runs back, suffering from frostbite. With Gomu out of
the action, Gokuu uses his bo to lift himself and Hatchan to the top
floor.

Gokuu evades White's bullets, and demands the return of the village
headmaster. White would rather fight, and is sure that he'll win, but a
light kick to his shin drops him to his knees. He pulls a "Huh, what's
that?" on the boy, who falls for the gag and gets punched. White gets
punched back, and finds his gun with the powered bullets. He hides the
gun in his pocket and surrenders. After revealing the headmaster to be
in a cell on the top floor, White pulls the gun out and uses the old man
as a hostage. The old man says "I'm old, forget about me, save the
village." Gokuu asks the man if he really means it, and he has to
backtrack to prevent himself from being killed after all. White tells
Gokuu to turn around, and then shoots him in the back of the head.
Hatchan tells White to stop doing this bad thing, and takes a bullet in
the leg while trying to protect his friend. The bullet turns the
monster into a real monster. White runs out of bullets, and is punched
into the next county. Gokuu is ok, (Hatchan asks again if he's dead,)
and the three head off to Jingle Village.

In the house, the family talks about the adventures, and the village's
debt to the 2 heroes. The mother wants to know if the Ball had been
found, and after a moment's hesitation, Hatchan pulls it from his
pocket. He had found it while wandering around outside, and had refused
to hand it over to White, to protect the village. This sends the
headmaster into a flurry, and he asks Hatchan to become a member of the
village. This is hard for the monster to believe, but he does accept
the offer. Then, they all get ready to go to sleep, and Gokuu marvels
over getting another Ball, although this one isn't the one with his
grandfather's spirit, either. The girl wants Gokuu to stay too, but he
has to be off again. But, as he tries to find the next Ball, he
discovers that the Dragon Radar had been damaged in the fighting.
Hatchan volunteers to look at the Radar, because he's good at these
things, but it's too complex for him. And, since Gokuu can't stay, the
girl promises to give him lots of bento boxes (box lunches.) They go to
sleep, and Hatchan is in bliss, since he's sleeping on a futon bed for
the first time.

The next morning, as the village elders are trying to figure out how
Gokuu is going to make the travel on foot, they discover that he'd once
owned Kintoen. Further, they already know about the racing cloud, and
that it can not be destroyed. So, Gokuu to told to try calling his
friend, and sure enough, Kintoen does arrive once more (Gokuu is very
happy.) So, he's off, with people cheering behind him. Eventually, the
weather gets warmer, and he eats his way through the bentos.
Some time later, Gokuu arrives in Buruma's hometown, and isn't very
happy about what he finds. The place is big and noisy, and no one knows
where "this Buruma" lives. He tries taking a taxi, but doesn't have an
address or this stuff called "money." The money part is solved when he
finds a he-man boxer who offers 100,000 zenii (note, the symbol for a
zenii is a backwards '$') to anyone that can beat him. This is just
like the Tenkaichi-Budoukai, and Gokuu accepts the offer. The kempou
master doesn't take the runt seriously, but finally gets angry enough to
fight back. That's when Gokuu smashes the wall and gives the guy a
chance to surrender (he does.) On the streets, 2 thieves try to rob the
boy (using a "hey kid, come over here," routine.) They want to take his
money without helping him find Buruma first, so he trashes one of them.
That's when the other suggests that Gokuu try asking a policeman for
help.

One woman that points out the nearest cop, gets paid a lot of money
in return (Gokuu still doesn't know what this money stuff is all about.)
The cop isn't too sure about being able to find one woman in such a
large town, and certainly not with the aid of Gokuu's drawing. But, his
hand-held computer finds only 3 women named "Bulma," and the second one
listed turns out to be the girl who works at the famous Capsule Corp.
The cop takes Gokuu to Capsule Corp. HQ, but isn't all that sure that
Gokuu really knows Buruma. Gokuu doesn't understand the concept of
intercoms, either, so the cop tries to talk to someone inside the
building, but just gets an answering machine. Then Gokuu catches
Buruma's scent just before the girl arrives home from school. The cop
can't believe that Gokuu's nose is that good, and sniffs Buruma, too.
Buruma is happy to meet Gokuu again, and the cop asks if it's ok to
leave the bike outside and he can follow them (he wants to have the bike
tuned up.)

The Capsule interior is bigger than the exterior. Buruma tells one
robot to take her to her father. There, Buruma introduces Gokuu, whom
dad mistakes as the cop. He then asks Gokuu if the boy and his daughter
have been doing any kissing. (Gokuu wants to know what kissing is, and
Buruma tells him that it's not a matter for children to know.) (The cop
has trouble believing that the old man runs Capsule Corp.)

Back at Red Ribbon HQ, Red has a photo of the troublemaker that
trashed White Shogun. The photo is to be passed on to all of the men,
and they speculate that Gokuu does indeed have a Dragon Radar. Red
wants the Balls, the Radar, and Gokuu's dead body.

Buruma fixes the Radar, and learns that Gokuu has 2 balls already.
She then figures that since tomorrow is a Saturday, that she can go with
Gokuu on an adventure. But, since she can't ride Kintoen, Buruma shows
off her latest invention -- her "micro band," which can make the wearer
very small. However, as she demonstrates it, her mother walks in and
steps on her. (Mom wants to know why Buruma snuck in under her foot.
Mom is not very smart, and dad is hentei.) Mom asks whether Gokuu would
like a glass of sake, and Buruma yells that you don't give sake to kids.
Gokuu wants to know where Yamcha is, and mom replies that Buruma and
Yamcha had an argument and aren't seeing each other right now. Buruma
says that Gokuu is better than Yamcha, and mom thinks that her daughter
now has a new boyfriend (Buruma denies this.)

As she leaves, Buruma gets her box of capsules from dad's workbench,
as dad is tuning up the cop's bike. The next Ball is 8000 km SE. Gokuu
calls Kintoen, Buruma gets small, and they ride off. The cop hops on
his scooter, and promptly smashes into a car (the owner wants to know
why cops are so dangerous.) Then, dad uses one of his capsules and
discovers that his daughter had grabbed his capsule box by mistake.
Next morning, Gokuu awakes to find himself flying over the ocean.
Red Ribbon is tracking the two Balls, and Red is amazed at their speed.
He is told that the quarry is approaching Blue Shogun's camp, and Blue
is alerted to the fact. However, Blue is distracted by a fart that one
of his men released, so he has the man shot. He looks forward to
capturing the boy.

Out over the ocean, the Radar indicates that the Ball is directly
below our heroes, so they head for the nearest island, where Buruma
plans on using a capsule to give them a submarine. However, all she
gets are porno magazines, which she destroys. So, Gokuu goes swimming to try
to find the Ball. However, the water is too deep, and he can't hold is
breath long enough. He returns to the island, but discovers that Buruma
has wandered off. Buruma had planned on finding civilization, and
buying a new box of capsules, but is discovered by some RR men. When
the men shoot at her, they realize that she's female, and try to pick
her up. The men want to do something "good" with her, so she suggests
that they try playing with a Famicom game machine. That's when they
start shooting at her again. Gokuu hears her screams, and comes to ask
if she's having fun. She tells him that the bad guys are shooting at
her, so he trashes them. Buruma is stunned, having been shot at by
perverts. Then Gokuu states that to get help, they should go to
Kamesennin's house. Buruma thinks that Kamesennin is an even bigger
pervert.

At the island, everyone says "hi" to each other, and Buruma gets big
again. She states that they need a submarine capsule, fearing what the
old man will want in return. She's relieved, but surprised, when he
says that he just wants the micro band. Turns out, though, that Kuririn
and Ranchi have taken the sub out for the day. Red Ribbon notices that
the Balls have stopped moving, and Red orders an attack force to be sent
out. The black aide seems to remember that there's something disturbing
about that particular island.

While waiting for Kuririn to get back, Buruma goes to the toilet, and
the old man rushes inside to get small and watch her take her panties
off. But, he gets there too late, slips and falls into the toilet, and
eventually surfaces from the sewer outside. He takes a swim to wash
himself off, and Gokuu wants to know why he's sopping went since he'd said
he was just going to take a break to watch TV. He's saved from
explaining when Kuririn and Ranchi return. Kuririn misremembers
Buruma's name as "Pants-san" (close match to "bloomers",) and she yells
at him. Kamesennin wants to know why they took so long, and Kuririn
states that Ranchi had changed and terrorized the town for a while,
first.

Blue Shogun gets a report from one of his men, and Gokuu says that he
needs the sub to find a Dragon Ball. So, Gokuu, Kuririn, and Buruma
take off and dive into the sea. Blue Shogun witnesses this, and splits
up his forces -- part to follow the sub, and part to invade the island
to get the 2 Balls. Kamesennin wants to know if Ranchi needs to use the
toilet right now.

At first, Buruma thinks that the Ball is just lying on the sea bed,
but Gokuu can't find it. But, there is a crack in the ocean floor, and
by using the Dragon Radar in a new way, she realizes that there's a
massive underwater cave system below them. Gokuu is amazed with his
scuba gear -- you can breathe underwater, AND talk, but he returns to
the sub and they look for the cave entrance. Meanwhile, above them,
Blue is mobilizing his forces. His sub locates Gokuu's, and he launches
a torpedo attack that misses its target. Kuririn and Buruma are
surprised to find that they have enemies, and Gokuu replies that it's
just Red Ribbon. The other two are shocked that Gokuu hasn't recognized
the biggest crime force in the world and are angry that he's gotten them
involved. Gokuu says that RR wants the Balls too, which changes the
problem slightly. They escape into the cave, and Blue follows them.
Kuririn slips into a smaller tunnel, forcing Blue to go out in his
own little subs.

And, back on the island, the invading force arrives to hold
Kamesennin at gunpoint.

Summary of Dragonball Volume 7

The leader of B Team is on Kamesennin's island, and demanding the
Dragon Balls from "the doctor." One of the guards goes inside the
house, but only finds Ranchi. Kamesennin didn't know that Buruma had
forgotten the balls on the island. Since he's going to be killed after
handing over the Balls, the old man decides to fight. After trashing
most of the men, one remaining guard takes Ranchi hostage. But,
Kamesennin's turtle holds a branch under her nose, Ranchi sneezes,
and... Kushami takes umbrage at having been called a "shit-woman" --
kicking the fallen man, spitting on him, and giving him the finger. The
last remaining soldier is seen trying to escape, and quickly agrees to
remove the fallen bodies from the island.
Meanwhile, in the undersea tunnels, Goku and friends surface in a
cave and run down a corridor. Blue Shogun gets a radio message saying
that B Team has been wiped out. Gokuu wants to know why they're running
from RR, and turns to make a stand (Kuririn and Buruma want to keep
running, since the soldiers have machine guns.) However, Blue Shogun
calls his men back, telling them that B Team had been defeated by one
old man and a girl. Gokuu doesn't understand why no one wants to fight
him. Buruma tells him to keep moving. But, the tunnel gets dark, until
Gokuu finds a light switch. This makes everyone wonder who had been in
these tunnels before them.

Buruma is puzzling this out, when Gokuu surprises her by wearing a
skull he'd found from a nearby corpse. Blue sends one of his men out to
spy on the heroes, and Kuririn realizes that this place had been the
hideout of an infamous band of pirates, and that there's probably a
treasure chest down here somewhere. The spy radios this information
back, and Blue considers the possibility of getting the Dragon Ball,
Radar AND fabulous wealth. Kuririn leads the way, and ignores the
strangeness of the corridor he's approaching. Until he steps on a
switch that fires a spear right over his head. The only way across is
to jump over the switches, which Gokuu demonstrates. Kuririn is still
portrayed as a buffoon, and does almost make it past the switches before
triggering another spear. Both boys growse about Buruma's inability to
make the leap herself, and Gokuu has to use his bo to carry her over.
Blue catches up to his spy, who says that the group is right around
the corner. Blue decides to surprise the heroes, and orders his men to
rush them. He's counting his treasure already, but is interrupted by
the cries of pain from his men. They'd triggered the traps, and one
corpse helpfully states that A Team has been completely wiped out. Blue
reasons that the pirates would have a way to bypass the trap, and finds
a secret button that reveals another passage way.

Gokuu and company happen into the submarine docking bay, and marvel
over the size of the equipment, before Gokuu notices a sound. Blue
thinks that he's been discovered, but the boy states that the intruder
isn't human. They're attacked by a guard robot that Buruma thinks is a
ghost, until Kuririn corrects her. They fight the guard, then Gokuu
states that he'll take care of it while Kuririn takes Buruma away from
the dangerous bullets. Blue chases after the two, and Gokuu kicks the
robot into the water. He's pulled in by the robot's tail, and given a
painful shock before he breaks the tail off. Swimming out ahead of the
robot, Gokuu uses his bo to get some altitude, then leaps down for a
Janken punch. The robot is destroyed, Gokuu says "Peace, peace, peace,"
in victory. He then races after the others.

Kuririn notices that the island is starting to tremble. They reach a
t-corridor, and decide to take the right turn because the Radar
indicates that's where the Ball is. Blue snuffs out the arrow Kuririn
puts on the floor, and makes a new arrow pointing left. Gokuu comes up,
sees the arrow, and runs off in the wrong direction while Blue watches.
The earthquakes are getting stronger (probably caused by the explosion
of the robot,) and the two stop at a dead end. Their only choice is to
strip down and go swimming. Blue isn't very happy with the idea of
getting wet, but he continues to follow them. Gokuu's dead-end contains
a trapdoor that drops him on what he thinks is a big cuttlefish. The
octopus corrects him, stating that it's been a long time since it's been
fed. Gokuu wants to keep moving, but the octopus grabs him and softens
him up by hitting him against the wall a few times. Then, Gokuu weakly
says that he'd like to give the octopus a "fun thing." It wants to know
what the fun thing is, and the boy says, "Kamehame-ha." The octopus
doesn't understand, but is quickly blasted.

Kuririn and Buruma surface in another grotto, near the treasure
chest. But, they don't have time to marvel at the contents before Blue
claims it for Red Ribbon. Buruma falls for the hunk, and quickly learns
that he's a fag, and he tells them not to call him that. Kuririn
expects a quick fight, and waits to Blue to attack.

Gokuu decides that it really was takoyaki (grilled octopus) and has a
snack break. He hears a scream, that could be Buruma or Kuririn, and
(after Kuririn gets beaten up a little more,) decides to investigate
the source of the second scream. Buruma tells the runt to quickly
finish off Blue, so he uses "one pattern" to fool Blue and get in a good
kick. The sight of his own blood causes Blue to go insane, and he
resorts to his secret technique -- Chounouryoku, a form of hypnosis
which paralyzes Kuririn. Blue then has fun beating up the shrimp prior
to killing him. Buruma is quaking with fear, expecting to be the next
victim, while Blue notices that the earth tremors are getting stronger.
Deciding to use her femine wiles on Blue, Buruma discovers that the
fighter actively HATES women. When she states that she's really a guy
in disguise, Blue gets interested and she runs off in terror. Before
Blue can pound in Kuririn's head with a rock, Gokuu leaps out of the
pool. Buruma fills him in, and the two fighter square off. Gokuu gets
in the first couple of shots, then as Buruma shouts out her warning,
Blue uses Chounouryoku. Blue gets revenge, but the tremors are
worsening. So, he uses a capsule to get a shotgun, and demands to know
where the Dragon Ball is. Buruma slowly says that the Radar indicates
that the Ball is in another pool. Blue decides to kill the three
despite his earlier assurances, and Buruma screams about how such a
beautiful, kind maiden as herself is about to be cruelly killed (Kuririn
isn't impressed.) Before he can pull the trigger, though, a mouse runs
out and Blue recoils is horror (which breaks the spell on Gokuu.) Gokuu
uses Janken, knocking Blue against the wall. Rocks are falling from the
ceiling now, so Gokuu gets the location of the Dragon Ball (it really
was in the pool that Buruma pointed out,) and he tells the other two to
escape and he'll meet up with them later. Gokuu finds the Ball, and the
mouse that saved him (he returns the favor.)

Kuririn and Buruma reach the sub docking bay, but are cut off from
their own sub by a cave-in. So, they settle for one of the pirates' old
mini-subs, and find that the engine still works. Blue tries to take the
treasure chest, but is buried by another cave-in. With the mouse still
in his mouth, Gokuu rushes past the rocks, while Buruma tries to leave
without him. Kuririn won't let her, but the mini-sub is about to pull
away from the dock as Gokuu runs up. In the sub, Gokuu pulls the mouse
out, and is happy to see that it is still in good shape. The falling
rocks are starting to panic Kiririn, so Buruma assures them that they'll
get to open sea safely. Except, they run out of fuel. So, Gokuu hands
over the mouse (Kuririn wants to know why he has to hold a mouse,) and
before people can stop him, Gokuu uses Kamehame-ha to blast the mini-sub
out of the tunnel. Then, he calls Kintoen and takes the group to the
nearest island. Behind them, Blue surfaces, still alive.

Gokuu says "That was close," Buruma agrees, adding that it's a good
thing that Gokuu is a friend of hers. Kuririn bemoans the loss of the
treasure, but Buruma pulls a huge diamond out of her shorts. Those two
comment on it's value, and Gokuu remembers to check the Dragon Ball --
still not his grandfather's. He plans on continuing his quest, which
Buruma objects to because of the danger from RR. Kuririn suggests that
they take one of RR's flyers and seek out Kamesennin's advice. Blue
shows up on the same island, which is a RR base, and grabs a flyer of
his own. While inspecting the diamond, Kuririn starts sniffing it (the
little sukebe knows where it's been hidden,) and has to prevaricate when
Buruma asks why. Blue is just waiting for his chance.

Kamesennin is stunned that the group wants him to sell the diamond,
which they estimate to be worth a few million zenii. They fantasize
over that that can buy, forgetting that Kushami is with them. She
steals the gem at gunpoint and flies off (Buruma hadn't met Kushami
before.) Buruma wants the gem back, and can't understand why no one's
chasing after it. Blue finds Gokuu's "hidden hideout" and drops in with
some rope (he has very strong legs, and we can see why the cave
collapsing on him didn't faze him.) Gokuu want the other Balls and
Buruma wants a plane capsule. But, Kushami took the only plane, and
they're stuck on the island, which pleases Blue. Kuririn warns the old
man about Red Ribbon, but he already knows about them. That's when Blue
uses his mental powers to cause the ropes to tie up the good guys.
They're surprised to find that he's still alive. Blue goes into the
House, where he gets the Balls. They can't break free of the ropes, and
when Blue comes back out, he leaves a little "bomb-chan" with a 5 minute
timer, next to them on the beach. He then uses a capsule to get another
plane. Buruma yells out that she really wants to become a RR soldier,
but Blue says that RR doesn't hire women for that. So Kamesennin says
that he'll volunteer to join. Blue answers that they have 4 minutes
left, and he flies off.

Everyone is panicking when Ranchi returns. She thinks this is some
kind of game. She's told to throw the bomb away, but it's too heavy for
her. Instead, she cuts Gokuu's ropes and he throws the bomb away with a
few seconds to spare. Our hero then calls for Kintoen and rushes off to
get the Dragon Balls back.

It's now summer vacation in Penguin Village, and Akane wants to know
what her friend's plans are. One guy wants to continue his martial arts
training, the others are going to do stupid things. Tarou comes along
with another girl, saying that he has a date -- ruining Akane's mood.
All through this, Senbe keeps popping up, giving a peace sign. He says
it's because they haven't appeared in Shonen Jump for so long. Later,
everyone else starts acting the same way (including the martial artist's
parents,) and Akane yells that her mother had better not start giving
peace signs (her mother doesn't understand the problem.) Arale says
goodbye to people, and is about to return home when something overhead
attracts her attention...

Gokuu demands the Balls back, Blue just laughs and goes faster.
Gokuu catches up, to Blue's surprise. Our hero tries to use his bo to
smash the flyer, but Blue swerves away in time. Blue is getting angry,
so he cuts the engine to let Gokuu catch up. Then he turns them back
on, expecting to fry Gokuu. However, his gloating is interrupted by the
mountain he crashes into. Gokuu lands lightly in front of Arale, who
wants to talk. But, the boy is in a hurry, and rushes off on Kintoen.
This causes Arale and the two G-chans to chase after. Blue is
staggering from the wreckage, muttering about revenge, when Gokuu
appears. So, he hides and leaves to reach Red Ribbon HQ. The wreckage
seems to be devoid of Dragon Balls, and Gokuu's getting angry as the
three strange kids he'd met earlier show up again. He's impressed that
this girl can run faster than Kintoen can fly. Arale wants to play, but
Gokuu again rushes after Blue Shogun. Then, circling overhead, he
complains about not being able to locate the villain.

Some distance away, Blue is trying to commandeer the car of
Su-perman. Luckily, there's a phone-booth nearby, and the normal human
runs in to change into his super identity -- which Blue has never seen
before. Su-perman eats an umiboshi, and gives Blue fair warning. Blue
laughs, destroys the phonebook, and asks where he can find the nearest
airplane. Su-perman quickly states that the nearest plane is at Senbe
Norimake's, and gives his car to Blue to help him out. He then gloats
over having made his particular patch of land safer.

Gokuu is getting very frustrated, until he remembers the Dragon
Radar, but it's busted. Gokuu asks if Arale knows Kamesennin's
location; of course, she doesn't. He complains about the radar being
busted and Arale replies that Senbe can probably fix it. She wants to
ride the cloud too, and Gokuu is surprised to find that she's pure of
heart enough to do so. They fly off, and everyone has a good time.
They stop at the house, where Senbe is tuning his plane. Arale
points out Senbe, and the boy thinks she means Yamabuki-sensei. The
real Senbe is identified, and looks at the broken radar. Being told
that the radar can locate Dragon Balls doesn't help Senbe any. he opens
up the device and is stunned by its complexity. He's even further
humiliated at hearing that the device was built by a woman. Then, Blue
drives up to the house.

Senbe gives the device his best shot, but it's Turbo who can
understand the thing and can fix it. Blue finds the plane, and Gokuu.
Senbe hands the repaired radar over, and congratulates himself on being
the greatest inventor in the world. Then, Gokuu notices that according
to the Radar, the Balls are very close. When he looks up, he sees Blue
holding a knife to Arale's throat. Gokuu wants the Balls back, but Blue
uses his Chounouryoku on him (Turbo recognizes the technique.) Yamabuki
wonders if Blue is a friend of Gokuu's ("Wrong! He's a bad guy!!").
Blue takes the radar, puts it his pocket, puts the balls in the plane,
and prepares to kill Gokuu with a palm tree. This is when Senbe tells
Arale to use her "pro wresting" moves on the bad guy. The robot does
this very happily, and sends Blue into orbit. Turbo breaks the spell on
Gokuu. Gokuu is impressed that Arale is so strong (she says that the
G-chans are also strong, as is Obotchiman.) Gokuu gets the Dragon
Balls, but remembers that Blue had the Radar. He's upset by this state
of affairs, until Turbo asks for permission to use pieces of the plane
to build a new one (based on what he'd seen when doing the original
repairs.) Gokuu is happy, Senbe is proud, and Kintoen appears to
continue the quest. Gokuu suggests that Arale enter the next
Tenkaichi-Budoukai, and then flies off. Senbe still doesn't understand
what it was all about. Finally, Blue is on the phone, saying that he
has the Radar. However, when told to return right away to RR HQ, he
stammers about this little problem he has (there's a pyramid in the
background.)

Riding Kintoen, Gokuu checks the Radar, hoping that the next Ball
will have the 4 stars that mark it as his grandfather's. Black tells
Red that Gokuu is heading west, which is Yellow's domain. Red orders
that Yellow Taisa be alerted. This land is called Seichi Karin, and it
has a peculiar tower reaching up into the clouds. Yellow is demanding
that the Indian turn over his Dragon Ball, and the Indian warns the
invaders that he'll kill them to protect his land. One thug sneaks up
from behind, and Upa warns his father. The thug dies and Yellow tells
everyone to fire. But, the bullets just bounce off the Indian, who
trashes them. Yellow escapes, and Chichi-ue starts cleaning up the
grounds. Black receives a radio message from Yellow, and is chastised
by Red for behaving above his position. Red tells Yellow to take the
kid has a hostage, and if he fails, Tao-Pie Pie will be brought in (with
orders to kill Yellow AND the Indian.) So, Yellow turns off his engine,
glides in, and grabs Upa. Chichi-ue is about to hand over the Ball to
keep Upa from being killed, when Gokuu hears Upa's call for help. Gokuu
eventually recognizes the symbol on the side of the plane, and smashes
it. Upa lands safely on Kintoen, Black comments that Yellow has failed,
and Red decides to commission Tao-Pie Pie.

As Bora is thanking Gokuu for rescuing his son, Upa, our hero notices
that the Indian is holding his grandfather's Dragon Ball in one hand.
Gokuu goes crazy celebrating, and Bora demands to know why people want
the thing so badly. At the same time, Blue Shogun is returning to Red
Ribbon HQ. One guard doesn't recognize him, and dies for his mistake.
Inside, Tao-pie pie is introducing himself to Red Sousui as the world's
greatest assassin. He demands 1 billion zenii for his services, and
Black wants to know if he's really the great Tao-pie pie. However,
since the assassin wants to set up a special assassins' "campaign," he's
willing to shave off half the cost if Red will help him. Black is still
dubious. Then, Blue rushes in. Red isn't impressed with Blue's
performance, even after Blue turns over Buruma's Dragon Radar. Although
the radar is better than anything that RR has, the only way Red will be
mollified is if Tao-pie pie uses Blue to prove if the assassin is as
good as he claims. Tao tells Blue to attack any way he wants, while the
assassin will limit himself to just using his tongue. Blue says that
this will be fun, attacks, missing the other guy, and then falls dead on
the ground after Tao pokes a hole in his temple. Tao slurps off his
tongue, Red and Black admit that he is what he claims, and then show him
a photo of his target. Tao is surprised that it's just a kid, but Red
warns him that Gokuu had already defeated a number of other talent.
(Note: On page 18, we get to see for the first time just exactly how
short Red really is.) Black offers Tao the use of a helicopter, but Tao
declines, saying that would take too long. He breaks off a section of
pillar, calculates the distance to Gokuu's current location, says he'll
be there in 30 minutes, throws the pillar, and then leaps on it for the
ride. Black is stunned, and Red is ecstatic in the knowledge that Gokuu
will soon be dead.
Bora comments on the nature of the Balls, and Gokuu says that he
doesn't want them to make a wish, he just wanted the one that has his
grandfather's soul. Then, he asks about the Tower, which leads into the
heavens. At the top, it's rumored that there's a magical water that can
give you great strength and speed. Gokuu is impressed, because even
Kintoen can't fly that high. As they remark on the water's ability, Upa
sees something approaching. Tao-pie pie lands ("Aloha,") announcing that
he's the world's greatest assassin. Bora tells him to leave, but Tao
says that he has business with Gokuu, and is working for Red Ribbon.
Upa asks his father to help, and Bora ignores Gokuu's pleas to stay out
of this. Tao calls Bora a fool, then shows Bora just how weak the Indian
really is. When Bora lands, with the spear through his chest, he's
dead.

Gokuu attacks, and Tao is surprised that the boy can survive his kick
into the tower. Gokuu swears, uses Kamehame-ha, and just manages to rip
up Tao's clothing. This pisses off Tao, who answers back with Dodon,
and kills Gokuu. Tao finds the Dragon Balls, and says that his job is
done. In anger, Upa throws a rock, which Tao blows back, says that the
boy is lucky he's not dead. Then Tao leaves on his pillar. Back at RR
HQ, Red is still gloating, but this turns to anger when the Radar board
shows Gokuu's three balls leaving the Seichi Karin (Note: the board
indicates that RR has one ball, and one is still in Seichi Karin.)
In a small town, Tao has found a tailor that will make him a copy of
his old uniform. The man says it'll take 1 week, Tao insists that it
only take 3 days. Tao then asks to use a phone, and calls in to tell
Red that he has all of the Balls. Red corrects him, saying one is still
back at the tower. However, the news that Gokuu is dead keeps Red from
getting too angry, and Tao promises to get the remaining ball.
After burying his father, Upa promises to grow up strong like him,
and starts burying Gokuu. But, the boy is still alive, and the Dragon
Ball that falls out of his ripped jersey shows why. His grandfather
saved him. But, he sees Bora's grave, and vows to get all of the Balls
to make a wish to bring Bora back. Upa is surprised that this is possible,
and Gokuu explains about the Dragon. However, he's not strong enough to
face Tao-pie pie by himself. That's when Upa tells him to climb the
Tower. Gokuu decides to do this, and rushes up the pillar, leaving Upa
behind in amazement. However, it takes him a full 24 hours, and as he's
about to give up, he sees the top. He starts searching for the water,
and a voice tells him to go up one more floor (where "the master"
lives.) There, he finds a big house cat, holding a staff. Gokuu asks
for the water, the cat gives him a hard time, and when Gokuu asks where
the master is, he's shocked to hear that he's talking to him. The cat
introduces himself as Senpyou (cat master)-sama, and points out where
the Chousei water is. He also knows why Gokuu wants it. So, when Gokuu
tries to take the water, he's very surprised that Senpyou hits him with
the staff. Turns out that Gokuu must take the water away from Senpyou,
first.

After a while, Gokuu gets tired, and Senpyou tosses him lunch -- a
Senzu seed. Gokuu is disgusted at first, then very happy at being
completely recharged. They continue fighting for the water.
Eventually, exhausted again, Gokuu asks questions: No, he's not the
first person to come for the water; there was another 300 years ago.
And, Senpyou-sama is 800 years old. The other person was Muten Roshi
Kamesennin. Took Kamesennin "3" to get the water. ("3 minutes??!!"
"No, 3 years.")

Gokuu panics at first, then renews his attack. He uses everything,
including "One pattern" on a massive scale. Senpyou attacks the wrong
pattern by mistake, but Gokuu still misses when he lunges for the water.
Senpyou then escalates matters by stealing Gokuu's Dragon Ball and
throwing it over the railing. Furiously, the boy rushes down the
pillar, gets the ball, and rushes back up. He demands to know why the
cat did that, and Senpyou replies that Gokuu is already improving -- the
first time, it had taken 1 day to climb the tower, and now he's just
gone down and back up in 3 only hours. So, they get back to fighting
until finally breaking to sleep. Gokuu almost steals the water while
the cat is sleeping, but decides against it. The cat was just faking
sleep, and is happy with the boy's honesty, thinking that Kamesennin had
tried the same trick, too.

The next day, Gokuu lunges forward, and tickles Senpyou, making the
cat drop the staff and water. Gokuu also fakes a falling-to-his-death
scream, having grabbed the railing with his tail. Gokuu is happy, the
cat is stunned that it had only taken 3 days to get the water, including
the time to climb the tower. But, the Chousei water is just plain
ordinary tap water -- the true secret is that all of the fighting is
what makes you faster and stronger. Happy, Gokuu leaves.
At the base of the Tower, Upa is expecting visitors, and hopes that
his friend is ok, since three days have already passed. In town,
Tao-pie pie is pleased with the fit of his clothes, but annoyed that the
tailor doesn't recognize him as the world's greatest assassin, and has
demanded payment for the clothes. So Tao kills the tailor and returns
via his pillar to Seichi Karin. Arriving at the Tower, he demands to
know where the other Ball is, and when Upa attacks, Tao throws the child
at the Tower. Gokuu arrives just in time, yelling for Kintoen, to save
Upa and surprise Tao. Gokuu faces the assassin, saying that he's the
one with the Dragon Ball, and he wants the other 3 back. They banter
with each other, then fight. Tao can't believe that Gokuu has changed
so much in just three days, and is further shocked to hear that Gokuu
had been at the top of the Tower (Tao knows the rumors, himself.) He
prepares to have some fun with a real challenge. They fight some more,
until Tao's clothes get trashed again and he loses his temper. However,
when he unleashes his Dodon attack, Gokuu catches it in his hands. Tao
can't believe this, and Gokuu refuses to waste a Kamehame-ha attack on him.
Then the assassin gets mad, pulls out a capsule, and starts using his
sword to dismember Gokuu. Upa runs to the teepee and throws Gokuu's bo
to his friend. After breaking the sword, he discards the bo to continue
fighting hand-to-hand. They banter some more (Tao repeats his claim as
the world's greatest assassin,) then Tao gets in a really good attack
(Upa wants to know what's gone wrong.) Convinced that he's finally won,
Tao gloats about keeping his title. Then Gokuu stands up and says it's
his turn. Tao calls him a monster.

Gokuu beats up Tao some more, and Tao realizes that the boy is faster
and stronger then him. When Gokuu takes a stork-pose (ala Karate Kid,)
Tao admits that he's a bad man and surrenders. This takes Gokuu by
surprise, which gives Tao the chance to pull out a canister, throw it,
leap up, and yell out "Die!!!" Upa recognizes the thing as a bomb, and
Gokuu kicks it out of the way. Up beside Tao-pie pie. Where it
explodes. Killing him.

This ends the combat on a high note, and Gokuu promises to get the
remaining Balls and bring Bora back to life. But, two of the Balls are
in RR HQ, so Upa tries to talk Gokuu out of his quest. Gokuu won't be
swayed, and calls Kintoen before rushing off.

Black announces that Violet has arrived. The woman hands over a
Dragon Ball, commenting on the usefulness of the little Radar. Red is
happy. Then, a soldier announces that the 4 Balls are moving, and
everyone thinks that Tao-pie pie is returning to the HQ. Meanwhile,
Gokuu catches up to a strange little aircraft. It's a remote camera
that Buruma is controlling from Kamesennin's house. The people in the
house are surprised to see Gokuu, and wonder if the boy is coming back
home. But, their Radar screen shows that 4 Balls are moving away from
the island. Kushami realizes that the other 2 Balls are sitting at the
site of RR HQ, and Buruma sends the camera out to confirm this (Gokuu
tried asking the camera to accompany him on their flight, but is
surprised at being rebuffed. That, and the camera is faster than
Kintoen.) Flier 84 reports that he's shot down a UFO, and the radio
operator thinks that it may have been Tao-pie pie. But, the 4 Balls are
still moving. The pilot says that he sees Tao approaching, then yells
that it's not the assassin after all.

On the island, everyone is panicking over the idea of Gokuu
single-handedly attacking RR HQ. Buruma has to be reminded that she has
the equipment to call up Capsule Corp. Her father answers, and wants to
chat. She yells at him to have Yamcha put on the line. When she says
that Gokuu needs help in fighting Red Ribbon, Yamcha hesitantly voices
his support, but Oolong is caught trying to sneak out of the room.
The radio operator unsuccessfully tries to raise flier 84. Then a
camera is turned on to show Gokuu approaching. This causes some more
panic. Black realizes that Gokuu is too strong to face, but Red orders
out his men. Gokuu trashes everyone in his way, occasionally checking
the Radar to locate the 2 Balls. Once, he uses Kamehame-ha. In the
control room, Gokuu is being tracked, and Red realizes that his enemy is
after the Balls. Black wants Red to retreat to safety, but Red claims
that he has the best soldiers in the world, and orders out more men to
be trashed. One sniper shoots Gokuu in the face, but that just stings
the boy, and the sniper then cowers in fear. The control panel operator
says that Gokuu has entered sector 8, and Red and Black run to sector 8
to protect the Dragon Balls.

On the island, Yamcha, Oolong, and Pool are telling the others to
board the jet quickly. Buruma and Oolong complain about being dragged
along, but Kushami gleefully looks forward to a fight. They stop along
the way to pick up Kuririn, who had been out for a swim. Red and Black
have reached the room with the 2 Balls. Gokuu keeps coming. Since he
doesn't know what an elevator is, and he can't find the stairs, he busts
through the ceiling and ruins the trap that had been waiting for him if
he'd taken the elevator (Red complains about this.) The bazooka missile
explodes in Gokuu's face, but this just makes him mad. He kills the two
behind the table, and keeps advancing. The remaining soldiers yell
"monster" and run away. Black comments on the other soldiers escaping
too, and Red gripes about the loss of his dream. Turns out that he'd
really wanted the Balls to make a wish to become taller. All his life,
Red had been derided for being short.

Black is stunned that Red wasn't going to wish for world domination
(like he'd promised to.) Since he now realizes that Red isn't the
leader he'd thought, Black shoots Red in the forehead and declares
himself the new RR Sousui. This is when Gokuu busts in, demanding the
Dragon Balls. He asks who's in charge, and Black says he is. Black
wants to make a deal with Gokuu -- they can rule the world together.
Gokuu just wants to bring Bora back, and Black says that can happen
after they take over the world. Gokuu's not interested, so Black gets
ready to fight. When he realizes how strong Gokuu is, Black uses a
capsule to make a combat robot (called a "Battle Jacket.") Gokuu gets
pounded a bit, and Yamcha says that they'll reach the HQ shortly.
[Notice that when Gokuu is first hit by the robot, he's up against a
wall, but in the next scene he's in the middle of the room.]
Black gloats, saying that he's going to kill the boy. They do some
damage to the buildings, and Black thinks that his fist blast has killed
Gokuu (who'd leapt up to a tower to safety.) Black celebrates his
victory, until Gokuu leaps onto the robot (saying that Black is acting
like an idiot.) Black over-reacts and punches himself in the head,
causing Gokuu to insult him some more. Black launches himself upward,
shaking off his opponent. Then he fires his biggest missile. Gokuu
assumes that this is a bomb, like the one Tao-pie pie had used, so he
kicks it again. This hurts his foot. The missile destroys a mountain,
and Gokuu is impressed. Black decides to run away, and Gokuu launches
himself through the battle jacket. Saying that he can't believe this,
Black dies as the robot explodes.

Gokuu gets the two Balls, saying that only one remains.
In their jet, Yamcha and friends yell out "Hold on, Gokuu!! We're
coming to rescue you!!"

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 9

Gokuu starts clicking the Radar, looking for the next Ball. But the
Radar is busted again. In the flyer, Gokuu's friends prepare for battle
against RR's hordes. They land some distance away, and argue over
Oolong's faked stomach ache. But before they can walk very far,
Kuririn sees an approaching enemy. They hide in the bushes, but realize
that their flyer is still visible. So, Pool is sent out to retrieve the
flyer in capsule form. Gokuu is complaining about having to return to
the big city to find Buruma and get the Radar fixed again. Below him,
the group recognizes their friend and yell out to him. He wants to know
what they're doing out here, and they have the same question for him.
Yamcha says Gokuu is lucky they'd found him before the fighting started,
and Gokuu dumbfounds them by replying that the fight is already over.
Pool is set out to confirm this, and the group starts wondering about
this little boy who can single-handedly defeat an entire, well-equipped,
army. Gokuu replies that he'd been to the top of Karin Tower (and that
he also knows the secret of the Chousei water,) which makes Kamesennin
wonder even more about a boy that could do something that had taken him
3 years to do. Kuririn wants to know what Kamesennin and Gokuu are
talking about, and Gokuu suddenly realizes that Buruma is with them.
They return to the island so that Buruma can get her tools. Along the
way, everyone comments on how much Gokuu has improved.
But, Buruma can't find anything wrong with the Radar. Gokuu is
grousing about only having the 6 Balls, and not being able to find the
last one, when Kamesennin says that if they find Uranai Baba, she can
tell them where the last Ball is. The old man shows them where to go on
a map (Gokuu can't understand the concept of "maps.") But, Oolong and
Buruma refuse to go along on the trip. So, Pool, Yamcha, Kuririn, and
Gokuu head off by themselves. Kushami wonders about Kamesennin's
comment, "I wonder if Gokuu is strong enough for this...")
Along the way, the group stops to get Gokuu a new set of clothes to
replace the damaged ones he's wearing. [Notice that Groucho Marx lives
in this town.] Yamcha is paying, so he wants to the clothes to be very
cheap. The first outfit isn't quite right, so they ask the tailor to
make a copy of the old outfit, with a hole in the back for the boy's
tail. Since it'll take an hour to finish, Gokuu rushes off on Kintoen
to get Upa, so that the young boy watch them find the last Ball. Upa is
introduced to everyone, and Kuririn comments on the "cute girl." This
earns him some ribbing for having Gokuu's problem of not being able to
tell the difference between the sexes. Gokuu changes on the street
(Yamcha tells him to not play with himself.) Gokuu is happy with the
new shoes, too.

When they finally locate Baba's house, they wonder about the tough
guys standing outside the door. The ghost-butler asks if they're there
to ask a question (Gokuu gets Baba's name wrong,) and Yamcha thinks that
there's something wrong here. A rich couple comes out, happy with
their answer. The toughs go in, there's a lot of screaming, and they
come out looking beaten-up. So, the group of friends are a little
concerned when it's their turn. But, the ghost won't answer any
questions. Inside, Gokuu asks if the old woman is really Baba, again
getting her name wrong. He asks if she can answer any question, and she
says, "Yes, for 10 million zenii." But, since they can't pay, she gives
them a chance to face her 5 warriors. Since Yamcha, Kuririn, and Gokuu
had done so well in the Tenkaichi-Budoukai, they are all over-confident.
Yamcha asks about the rules, and Baba says that the only rules are:
one-on-one combat, and "if you quit, you lose." Pool and Upa don't want
to fight, and Baba is surprised that it'll be three against five.
Kuririn goes first. The fighters are brought out one at a time:

Dracula-man
The Invisible Man
The Mummy
Akku-man (A devil)
A mysterious ghost (wearing a cat mask, and a halo.)

Dracula-man starts out, and is very fast. All Kuririn has to do is
surrender and he'll receive a transfusion. Because of the halo-shape
puncture wounds on his head, Yamcha gets Kuririn to start praying (looks
like a monk) and everyone laughs at him. Then Dracula-man knocks
Kuririn out of the ring and wins the first round. Gokuu wants to know
why his friend lost so fast, and Baba asks who'll fight her man next.
Yamcha asks if it would be ok if Upa and Pool can fight as one person,
since they're so small. Baba lets them. Upa eats some garlic, and Pool
does some shape changing -- they win this match.

Baba is amused, and Yamcha (still over-confident) goes next. The
teenager is waiting for his opponent to arrive, but he's already in the
ring and we now learn that he's The Invisible Man. Gokuu wants to know
why Yamcha is acting so funny, and Kuririn has to explain the concept of
invisibility to him. Then, Kuririn yells at Gokuu to rush off to get
Buruma and Kamesennin. As they wait, Yamcha starts listening for his
opponent's footsteps, and gets in a few good shots before Baba catches
on and starts singing about how cute she is. Baba then asks if Yamcha
is going to give up. But, Gokuu arrives first, and Buruma yells at
Kuririn for having been dragged to the shiai (fight.) Buruma and
Kamesennin are a little slow in noticing Yamcha getting beaten up.
Kirin positions the two with great care, awaits his moment, and then
pulls down Buruma's tank top, causing Kamesennin to suffer a nosebleed
so great as to coat the Invisible Man. This gives Yamcha his chance,
and he uses Rouga Fuufuu to get in a few shots before the Visible Man
surrenders.

Yamcha wins, Buruma yells at Kuririn for showing off her breasts,
Kuririn says he did it to save her boyfriend, and Kamesennin berates
Kuririn for trying to kill him by hemorrhage. However, Kamesennin also
thinks it was a nice move, and is happy with the boy. Baba reminds them
that they have 3 more fighters to face. Buruma asks if the old crone is
Baba, and Kuririn fills in the background details. Then, Kamesennin
says it's been a long time since he's seen his older sister -- Uranai
Baba. Baba replies in kind, and asks if Kamesennin is still a
sukebe. Kuririn thinks that since the two old folks are related, that
the fights will be called off, but Baba disagrees, and Yamcha replies
that he's up for the next contest. However, they have to go inside to
find the next guy (and Buruma now gets introduced to Upa.) In the
building, Yamcha is told that this is a place of bad magic, and when he
asks Kamesennin for advice, is told "Don't die." Baba points Yamcha to
a door, and takes the rest up to the observation deck. When everyone is
in place, Baba shows that the pool below Yamcha is not filled with plain
water. Yamcha agrees that this is a "bad magic" place. Here, if you
die, you lose. Then, Mirai-kun (The Mummy) appears.

The fight starts, and Yamcha thinks that since the Mummy is someone
that does a lot of pushing, and the footing is bad, he'll have to rely
on speed. Pool yells to his friend to not die. However, the Mummy is
too fast (Kamesennin is surprised to notice that Gokuu isn't shocked at
the Mummy's speed.) When Yamcha is almost knocked off the tongue, the
Mummy asks him to surrender. Instead, the group yells encouragement as
the boy tries Rouga Fuufuu. But, it fails and he's again asked if he
wants to surrender. Baba gloats until Yamcha seemingly wins by pulling
the Mummy off the tongue. Then the Mummy recovers again and they fight
some more. Eventually, Yamcha has to surrender to avoid being dropped
into the pool. Baba is happy. Buruma is pissed because Yamcha failed.
Yamcha apologizes, and Baba asks who the last fighter will be. After
Gokuu cheerfully volunteers, Upa tells him to please not die. Then,
they banter before Baba tells them to start. The Mummy is concerned
when he realizes that Gokuu LIKES fighting. After getting in a few
blows, the Mummy thinks he's won. Then Gokuu stands up and says it's
his turn now. Pool and Kamesennin are shocked at Gokuu's stamina and
lack of visible damage. With one punch, he drops the Mummy, and asks
if this means that he's won. Baba grudgingly says it does. The rest
are having trouble realizing that this is their friend, and the old man
reminds them that the boy had single-handedly defeated Red Ribbon. Gokuu
then asks if he needs to beat 2 more people, and Baba angrily says
"yes."

Akku-man wonders what the deal is with the kid, and the ghost laughs
to himself. Gokuu wonders at the weird-looking devil, and Kamesennin is
concerned (if Akku-man is number 4, then fighter #5 has to be REALLY
good.) They start, the demon surprises people at being able to fly, but
Gokuu is still too fast. They fight. Kamesennin says that Akku-man
shouldn't be underestimated, having won the Tenkaichi-Budoukai twice in
the past. Finally Akku-man unleashes his secret weapon -- his power is
to cause the least bit of evil in a person's heart to expand and cause
the victim to explode. Baba tells Akku-man to stop, but it's too late.
Akku-man laughs -- "Explode!" Gokuu wants to know where the strange
light came from. The magic has no effect, and Gokuu is shown to have a
pure heart. Then, Akku-man uses his pitchfork, and Gokuu has to get
serious. Which appears to have been a bit more serious than he'd
thought. Kamesennin can't believe the boy's speed.

Since Gokuu has won, he needs to face the final fighter. But, the
ghost asks Baba to move the combat back outside to the fighting circle.
She asks if he can win, and the ghost reassures her. Kuririn wants to
know why Gokuu is suddenly looking so strange, and the boy replies that
there's something comfortable about the ghost's smell. At the ring, the
ghost has to tell Baba something that makes her very amused (the ghost
has met Gokuu before.) Kamesennin also thinks that the ghost seems
familiar. Then, the last fight starts, but the ghost wants them to bow
to each other first. Gokuu still doesn't know what he recognizes about
the ghost, but the two of them seem to be evenly matched. Everyone else
is impressed. Gokuu gets thrown up into the air, then kicked to the
ground.

The ghost plummets after the boy, laughing. But, he stops laughing
when Gokuu leaps back up. Then, Gokuu takes the full power of the
ghost's kick without moving. Gokuu is having fun, and the ghost is
getting worried enough to use Kamehame-ha (a technique that only Gokuu,
Kamesennin, and Gokuu's dead grandfather know how to use.) So, Gokuu
uses "One Pattern" to evade the shot and leap upwards. The ghost thinks
he's vaporized the boy, Kamesennin finally understands, and Gokuu issues
a challenge to the ghost. The ghost laughs, preparing to use
Kamehame-ha again, but Gokuu gets in his Kamehame-ha first. It looks
like Gokuu has won, and Baba is upset. But, the ghost starts laughing,
and then grabs Gokuu's tail.

Yamcha has to tell everyone else that this is Gokuu's single weakness
(when his tail is grabbed, Gokuu loses his strength and collapses.)
Somewhere else, Pilaf and his two assistants are watching the fight via
satellite dish. Pilaf now knows Gokuu's flaw, and plans on exploiting
it to get the other 6 Dragon Balls. Pilaf has the last ball in a box
that is lined with a material that renders it invisible to Dragon Radar.
So, Pilaf orders his crew to drive out to Baba's estate.

Back at the estate, the ghost is flailing Gokuu around, and asks the
boy to surrender. This is when Kamesennin realizes that the ghost is
actually Son Gohan -- Gokuu's dead grandfather. Gohan is about to kill
Gokuu, when the boy's tail snaps off. The group reacts to the idea of
Gohan trying to kill Gokuu. Realizing that he's blown it, and seeing
how mad Gokuu has become, Gohan gives up. Baba takes this gracefully
("Oh well, can't be helped.") The ghost says that Gokuu is strong, and
the boy is puzzled that the ghost knows his name. The ghost says he
also knows that grabbing the boy's tail is his one weakness. Gokuu
starts to realize who the ghost is when it removes it's mask to reveal
Son Gohan.

Gokuu greets his grandfather (who really is dead, hence the halo.)
Gohan had been working for Baba as a talent scout for getting fighters
for her, and had one day left on his contract with her. Baba knew that
Gokuu would come in time to meet the ghost, because she can see into the
future. Gohan thanks Kamesennin for taking care of the boy for him, and
asks about him. But they're interrupted (neither old man wants to give
away how much they care about the boy,) when Gokuu wants to show him
something -- Gokuu has Gohan's Dragon Ball. The ghost marvels over the
other Balls, and Buruma has to tell the ghost about the properties of
the Balls.

Now that the Balls are about to be brought together, Kuririn tells Upa
that Bora can now be brought back. But, Upa thinks that since Gohan is
here, and is also dead, that Gohan should be brought back, instead.
But, the ghost is happy remaining a ghost, having found his own stash of
pichi-pichi girls (Yamcha uses the opportunity to heckle the old sukebe,
Kamesennin.) Upa thanks Gohan, Baba thanks Gohan, Gohan thanks Baba.
Everyone says their good-bye's, and then Gohan is gone. (In the TV
series, this is a much more emotional sequence.) Apparently, Gohan
still has Gokuu's tail, and the boy promises to grow up strong (which
makes Kamesennin a bit concerned.)

Baba uses her crystal ball (which can change sizes, as well as
float,) to locate the last Dragon Ball -- it's in an approaching car,
200 km away. This confuses Buruma, who still can't locate the Ball with
the Radar. Gokuu is happy with knowing where the Ball is.

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 10

Gokuu calls for Kintoen, but the rest of the group is worried about
attacking the car that Baba says has the last Dragon Ball. Buruma still
can't find the Ball with the Radar. Upa is given the other Balls, and
Gokuu rushes off. In the car, Pilaf is gloating about knowing Gokuu's
weakness -- if you hold his tail, he loses his strength. Shuu asks what
Pilaf will do as ruler of the world, and he stutters out that it's a
secret (actually, he hasn't thought his plan that far out, yet.)
Sighting the car, Gokuu lands on the roof, and asks for the Ball. Both
sides recognize each other (Pilaf wants to know how Gokuu's Radar picked
up the Ball's presence within it's Radar-proof box,) and they face each
other to fight. (Pilaf wants to get Gokuu in a position to grab his
tail. Gokuu wants to know how Pilaf knows that he has the other six
Balls.)
Pilaf's group uses capsules to give themselves giant mecha, and Gokuu
tries to figure out what happened. Pilaf brags of the power of his
mecha, but Gokuu isn't impressed. So, to demonstrate, Pilaf tells Mei
to attack the boy. While Mei argues about her being the one to
volunteer, Gokuu kicks Pilaf's mecha into a rock outcropping. (Notice
that on the next page, Pilaf's mecha has moved out away from the rocks
for some unexplained reason.) Mei and Shuu ask if he's ok, and Pilaf
asks if Gokuu is really human. Gokuu complains that he thought that
these mecha were strong. Pilaf swears and orders his people to encircle
the boy. He counts down for his attack, but Shuu yells out that he
can't find the boy's tail. Telling Gokuu to not move, they confer, and
try again. Pilaf points and yells "AH!" Gokuu looks, and Mei grabs
him. Shuu burns off Gokuu's pants, and Pilaf leaps in to grab the tail.
Which is missing. Mei yells at Pilaf to hurry, but the boy breaks free
and complains about his clothes being damaged. They ask what happened
to his tail, and Gokuu says it had been pulled off. Because they have
to keep fighting, the three combine their mecha into one big robot.
While Pilaf is laughing insanely, Gokuu starts his Kamehame-ha (which
Pilaf doesn't recognize. Note, since Pilaf had been watching the fight
between Gokuu and Gohan, he should have seen both people using
Kamehame-ha during the combat.) The blast damages mecha #2, so Mei is
ordered to escape, and the robot reconfigures for "running away" mode.
As Gokuu chases them, Mei and Shuu scream for Pilaf to fire their
missile (cute missile.) But, Gokuu catches it, and throws it back at
the retreating mecha. The boy asks for the Ball, and Pilaf hands it
over. Then he requests Shuu for a new set of clothes.

Gokuu returns with the Ball (Kuririn asks about the funny outfit, but
Gokuu just laughs in reply,) and Gokuu tells Upa to climb onto Kintoen.
People say goodbye to Upa, he thanks them, and the two fly off. The
rest of the group comment on having, or not having, seen Shenlon (the
Dragon King) before, and Baba says that she has a premonition that Gokuu
will go on to do something great (I can't find the critical kanji
in my dictionary.)

Gokuu and Upa get to Karin Tower and set up the Balls, then Gokuu
calls out for Shenlon. The Dragon God appears, (this is the first time
Gokuu's seen him, and Gokuu is impressed.) Our hero tells Upa to make
his wish -- "Give my dead father life." Gokuu asks if this is possible,
and Shenlon says yes. Bora is confused after standing from his grave,
but in good shape. Upa tells him what happened, Shenlon says "farewell"
and disappears. As the Balls fly in opposite directions, Gokuu leaps to
grab #4. Upa wants to see it, but it doesn't look like much (had taken
Gokuu a year to find, though.) Bora thanks Gokuu, and the boy is just
happy that the Indian is alive. They chat a bit (about Gokuu's having
climbed the Tower,) then it is time for him to leave.

Gokuu arrives back at Baba's estate, and everyone is happy that Upa's
father is alive again. However, when Gokuu has to take a leak, they
question Baba's premonition. Buruma asks if Gokuu is going to spend
another year searching for the #4 Ball, and Gokuu shows that he already
has it. This is when Gokuu announces that he wants to enter the next
Tenkaichi-Budoukai -- as does Yamcha (who wants to train under
Kamesennin.) Buruma doesn't want her boyfriend to associate with that
"sukebe" and the old man objects to being called that. Gokuu is happy
at training with Yamcha and Kuririn, but Kamesennin says that the boy
has to train on his own -- by running around the globe. The old man
thinks that he's just set a task beyond Gokuu's limits. Gokuu replies
that he doesn't understand, but it sounds like fun. So, he says goodbye,
and is about to ride Kintoen when he's told that he has to do this on
foot. So, he sets off running, and the others are stunned at this
situation. Baba asks if her little brother wants to lose to Gokuu, and
he responds by having the rest rush out and run, too. (Buruma objects
to having to do this.)

Three years have passed.

People have changed and grown.

Inside the Air Panic flight, bound for the Tenkaichi-Budoukai site,
Yamcha, Kamesennin, Kuririn, Pool, and Buruma are looking forward to the
fight, and back on the last 3 years. Kushami wants to know why they
have to ride in the plane, and can't hijack it. Kamesennin needs to use
the toilet, but they're about to land, and the stewardess makes him wait
(the others hope that they land really soon.)

Outside the airport, the others are impatiently waiting for the old
man to return from the toilet. Then they take a cab to the Budoukai
site. They sign up for the competition, and check whether Gokuu has
arrived yet -- he hasn't. They wait for the boy (Kushami wants the
50,000 zenii prize money too, but is told that weapons aren't allowed)
and there's only 5 minutes left before the deadline expires for entering
the competition. Kamesennin signs in as Jackie Chun, but has to take
his glasses off to show that it's really him. Three minutes left (the
old man said he'd run off to go to the toilet again.) Then, three
people show up, the older one calling out to Kamesennin. The old man is
surprised that Tsurusennin is still alive. They argue over who's going
to win the Budoukai, before the three walk off. The others complain,
and Kamesennin says that Tsurusennin is his main rival. There's one
minute left, and Pool is about to fly off to search for Gokuu, when
Kushami tells them to wait. Gokuu runs up. Yamcha and Buruma exchange
greetings with the boy, and Kamesennin signs him up at the table.
Buruma gives him a hard time, and Gokuu finally recognizes her.
Kamesennin asks how Kintoen is, and Gokuu doesn't know -- yes, he did
cross the globe on foot.

Three years have passed.

People have changed and grown.

Except for Gokuu.

Then the announcer states that the Tenkaichi-Budoukai is about to start,
and they go inside.

Gokuu is happy to wear his old outfit. Doesn't look like he's gotten
any stronger in the last 3 years, though. As Yamcha, Kuririn, and Gokuu
head for the rings, they're told to win all their matches. At ring
side, Kuririn is surprised at how much stronger people look, and a
couple people recognize them as being impressive in the last
competition. Outside, Pool wonders where Kamesennin is, and Buruma
replies "in the toilet." Inside, people recognize Jackie Chun, and Gokuu
brags that he'll win this time (Jackie's not so sure about that.) Then,
the announcer welcomes the fighters to the 22nd Tenkaichi-Budoukai. The
rules: If you leave the ring, you lose. If you are knocked down, the
fight will pause for a 10-count. People will be given numbers and
divided up into blocks. The last 8 people will advance to the final
round. (Implied rule: No weapons.) (Gokuu eats during this, getting
odd looks from his friends.)

Kuririn gets #71, block 2. Yamcha and Gokuu are in separate halves
of block 1 (Yamcha was worried about facing Gokuu early on.) Jackie is
178, in block 4. Kuririn is happy that they won't be facing each other
right away. People go to their blocks, and Gokuu gives Kuririn
encouragement. The ring judge gets started with fighters 1 & 2. Yamcha
wins with a knock-out. Gokuu is impressed, Yamcha tells him to watch
Kuririn. Kuririn bows, and behaves politely as the giant laughs (calls
himself Tako-chan.) Kuririn easily wins. Gokuu says that Kuririn had
improved a lot in 3 years, and Kuririn says it's nothing. Tenshinhan
comes up and bad mouths them. Gokuu has to be told who the guy is.
Tenshin tells them that they're lucky they don't have to face him, and
get humiliated by his hands. Yamcha isn't impressed, and Tenshin looks
forward to fighting him. Then it's Tenshin's turn. Kuririn expects the
man to lose fast, but Gokuu realizes that the man is very good. Tenshin
wins. No one can believe how fast he is (Yamcha and Kuririn make fun of
him.)

Then Gokuu faces Chapa Ou, an Iron Man that did well in previous
years. Yamcha is very worried, because he knows that Chapa is so good.
Chapa says he'll kill Gokuu fast, and Gokuu thanks him for that.
Jackie comes up, and he's also concerned that Gokuu hasn't changed much
in 3 years. But, he's still fast. Chapa gets serious, and Jackie
predicts that the man will use his 8-hand technique (hasshu ken. Yamcha
replies that this means Chapa moves so fast it looks like he has 8
hands.) Chapa does this, but people are more impressed with Gokuu, who
reminds the man that you can use feet, too. Chapa yells, "shit-brat,"
and attacks. Gokuu has to tell him to look up. Chapa is pleased,
because when Gokuu comes back down, he'll be killed. Chapa attacks,
Gokuu exhales, and wins. (Jackie calls this counter-technique
"explosive wind.") Gokuu is happy, Kuririn says he had an easy
opponent, but Gokuu disagrees. Gokuu says that the other three should
also be fast when facing strong opponents, and Jackie is afraid of
facing Gokuu. Later, Jackie apologizes to his own unconscious partner
about using too much power. Gokuu is impressed, and Yamcha comments
that this is a tougher Budoukai this time. The following narration
simply states that Kamesennin's 3 students have advanced to the final
round.

With the last elimination fight, they go out to meet the others.
Kuririn asks about Kamesennin, and Buruma says he's out behaving like a
pervert. The old man appears, asking "who's a pervert?" He claims to
have been watching from elsewhere, and congratulates the three fighters.
The PA announces the start of the next rounds. Kuririn wonders how
their friends can get good seats, and Kushami shows him (firing a pistol
and threatening to kill people.) Inside the building, the good guys
banter with each other, and bluster with Tenshin. Chao-zu calls Kuririn
bald, and when Kuririn yells that he's bald too, Chao-zu takes his hat
off. Kuririn says that one hair does not make that much of a
difference. Tenshin tries to get Chao-zu under control. Then the
announcer calls them over. Gokuu greets him, and the announcer says
"ah, you're back again this time." The guy tells the fighters that
they're each to take a number, and starts with last time's winner,
Jackie. Tenshin doesn't want to face Jackie, and notices that the
wolfman does (the wolfman tells him to shut up when he asks about this.)
So, Tenshin tells Chao-zu to force all of the pairings. Yamcha goes next,
and Tenshin wants him. It's then Panputto, Tenshin, (announcer comments
that Tenshin will fight Yamcha, and they bluster some more,) then
Kuririn, and the wolfman (who angrily states that he's a man-wolf. He's
normally a wolf, but turns into a man during the full moon. Kuririn
comments on how it's all the same thing.) The man-wolf growls at
Jackie; Jackie doesn't know why. The man-wolf is happy at being matched
up with the old man. Then Chao-zu (the announcer pronounces it Gyou-za,
meaning a kind of food, written with the same kanji.) This leaves
Gokuu, who is very surprised at finding out that the announcer has
predicted that he'll pull out the number 8. Tenshin makes fun of
Kamesennin's training. Chao-zu asks where "fun" is (thinking it's a
place.) The announcer gives the rules again (same as before.) When
they are told to go outside, the announcer asks if Gokuu wants to eat
first, like he did before. Gokuu replies "eat, eat!!" There's a bit
more blustering, with Kuririn claiming that they'll all four win.
Outside, the crowd is cheering, but the hero's' friends complain about
the lousy seating -- Ranchi asks if this is really her fault (Kushami
must have sneezed earlier.) The announcer comes out and welcomes
everyone to the 22nd Tenkaichi-Budoukai (recaps that the 182 contests
have been narrowed down to 8, and that the winner gets 50,000 zenii.)
He then announces the first match. The fighters are:

1) Yamcha Vs 2) Tenshinhan
3) Man-wolf 4) Jackie Chun
5) Chao-zu 6) Kuririn
7) Panputto 8) Gokuu

Yamcha and Tenshin bluster some more. The announcer introduces
Yamcha (veteran fighter, and Kamesennin's student,) and Tenshinhan
(student of Kamesennin's rival, Tsurusennin.) The two old men glare at,
and insult, each other. One audience member realizes that this is an
impressive situation. Yamcha's friends cheer him on, and Yamcha wants
them to watch him. Then the two fighters say that this will be fun.
The fight starts. Yamcha says it's ok to try to escape, and Tenshin
laughs. Kuririn calls the enemy a wimpy dancer, Gokuu thinks that
Tenshin is really strong, and Buruma and Pool expect the boy to win.
After the first exchange, the crowd is speechless, Kuririn is impressed,
and Gokuu likes both of them. Tenshin wasn't expecting Yamcha to be
this good -- it's been a long time since he's fought someone this fast.
This is when Yamcha announces Shin-Rouga-Fuufuu Ken (Tenshin says
"interesting!") They attack again. When Yamcha gets knocked down,
Kuririn and Gokuu are concerned, Tsurusennin gloats. Yamcha gets
serious, Kuririn wants to know what he's doing, and Gokuu replies
"Kamehame-ha" (Jackie calls Yamcha a fool for trying this.) The
Kamehame-ha attack works, but Tenshin merely focuses, and blows the
blast back at him. None of Kamesennin's group can believe this. Yamcha
leaps up, but as he curses Tenshin, and Gokuu yells out his warning,
Tenshin appears. When Yamcha lands, unconscious, Gokuu yells out "stop!"
However, Tenshin continues his attack and fractures the boy's leg.
The announcer needs some prompting to declare Yamcha out of the
competition, and Tenshinhan the winner. The announcer then tells a man
to call the hospital, but Pool says he'll take care of Yamcha himself
(then chants out his change into a flying carpet.) Buruma and Ranchi
state that they're going along, as well. Gokuu asks why the other guy
made such a vicious attack, knowing that Yamcha was already helpless.
"He's lucky I didn't kill him." Gokuu announces that he'll avenge
Yamcha, and Tenshin laughs at this. Tsurusennin continues to gloat at
Kamesennin's humiliation.

Next, the announcer introduces the reigning champion, Jackie Chun,
and the man-wolf. The man-wolf explains that he's mad at Jackie for
having destroyed the moon in the last Tenkaichi-Budoukai. The guy had
fallen in love with a beautiful human female, but since he can't turn
into human form, he's had to stop seeing her. Jackie asks about
beautiful wolf-women, and apparently those are all ugly. The announcer
asks if he can start the next round. Jackie isn't interested in
fighting the guy, which makes the man-wolf angrier. Tenshin talks about
wanting to win the competition, and Kuririn and Gokuu comment on how
their opponents can float in the air. Then, while the man-wolf says
he's going to kill Jackie, the old man merely comments on the beautiful
women in the audience. The first time that the man-wolf gets dropped,
the count starts. (In the audience, the turtle and Oolong notice that
Jackie acts just like Kamesennin.) Pulling out a knife, the man-wolf
attacks, and the announcer says that this isn't allowed (the man-wolf
tells him to shut up.) But, the knife attack fails, and Jackie says he
can turn the guy human through the power of suggestion. The man-wolf
doesn't believe this, and Jackie starts treating him like a dog (which
makes the guy furious, because he's not a dog, he's a wolf. But, he
keeps falling for it.) After shaking hands and sitting up, the guy
chases after the bone. And loses the match.

In a rage, the guy re-enters the ring to kill Jackie, but is
paralyzed so that the older man can show him the moon. Kuririn sees
where this trick is going, and is insulted by it. Jackie tells the wolf
to look at the full moon, and when he sees it, he turns into a man. He
goes running out to find beautiful women, but is so ugly as a human that
Jackie and Kuririn don't know why he'd bothered to change. The
announcer then states that the next match is between Tsurusennin's
student -- Chao-zu, and Kamesennin's student -- Full-Moon Head Kuririn.
The third match starts, but Chao-zu doesn't seem to notice or show
any fighting spirit. He then suddenly zips forward, and knocks Kuririn
around. Kuririn disappears, and Tenshin yells out "On your left!"
Chao-zu responds with "I eat with chopsticks in my right hand, the tea
cup in my left, so he's... here!" But, he's too slow and Kuririn hits
him. By flying out of the ring, Chao-zu reaches safety -- if Kuririn
leaps after the other boy, he'll fall outside of the ring and be
disqualified. Jackie fumes over the effectiveness of Tsurusennin's
techniques. Gloating, Tenshinhan calls Jackie a bastard, and Gokuu
replies that it's not "bastard," it's "Jiichan" (old man.) Then,
Chao-zu announces his "surprise attack. He uses Dodon. Kuririn doesn't
know what's happening, but Gokuu says it's the same thing Tao-pie pie
used. This gets Tenshinhan's attention, and he wants Gokuu to repeat
that last sentence. Gokuu says he'd fought Tai-pie pie, and asks why
Tenshin knows the assassin. But, Tenshin just walks off (Gokuu calls
him a weird guy.) After this, Jackie asks if Gokuu really had defeated
Tao-pie pie, and is stunned when Gokuu says he doesn't lie about things
like that ("He beat the world's greatest assassin...") Jackie tells
Gokuu that Tao-pie pie is Tsurusennin's younger brother.

Back in the ring, Kuririn is getting frustrated, and Chao-zu expects
to win. Tenshin rushes up to his teacher and wants to say something
important, but the other man doesn't like being interrupted when he's
having fun. Kuririn wishes that he could do Kamehame-ha, too, then
realizes that if Yamcha could do it, he should be able to as well. His
first attempt is very feeble, as he tries to remember the hand actions.
Tsurusennin is furious at hearing about what happened to his little
brother, and tells Chao-zu to get serious. Jackie is worried, but Gokuu
doesn't know what this means. Then, Kuririn prepares to use Kamehame-ha
as Chao-zu announces one last Dodon attack. Gokuu thinks this is great,
but Jackie knows that Dodon will overpower Kamehame-ha every time. The
two fighters are about to unleash their powers...

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 11

Jackie repeats the statement that Dodon will always win as the two
fighters set up their attacks, and yells that Kuririn will be killed.
However, Kuririn has gotten smarter in the last 3 years, and shouts out
"Now" when he leaps. It looks like he's won, but Chao-zu wobbles back
into the ring (Jackie is very proud of his boy.) Tenshin is just
pissed. But, as Kuririn starts getting in some good punches, Chao-zu
paralyzes his heart. Telepathically, Tsurusennin praises his student,
and tells him to kill Kuririn (which the boy happily proceeds to do.)
Chao-zu says "Die!" and Kuririn replies that his head isn't a
soccer ball. Kuririn assumes that Chao-zu has to concentrate on the
paralysis, and if he has to use his hands for something else, the
control will be broken. So, he spits out "What's 3+4?" The control
breaks, and he gets in one good punch before it's restored. Tenshin is
relieved, but Tsurusennin calls the boy an idiot. Chao-zu thinks the
trick will work in reverse and asks for 16+27. Kuririn gets it right
and wants to know 9-1. Chao-zu falls for it again, and panics as he
counts on his fingers. Kuririn wins (and tells the crowd that the
answer is "8".)
Gokuu is happy, Jackie thinks that Kuririn has finally learned to
reason in battle, and Tsurusennin is just angry. The next round starts,
with Panputto making a flashy entry. He's a multiple-time world
fighting champion, and is well-known. However, when he first punches at
Gokuu, he asks if the punch was too fast for him to follow. Gokuu says
it wasn't much of a punch, so Panputto demonstrates his great speed and
power. But, when he attacks Gokuu again, the boy's light tap to the
chest completely knocks the man out. The announcer goes ape over the
single-punch KO, and Gokuu wins. Tenshinhan disagrees, saying that
Gokuu actually got in three shots with his left elbow. He's impressed,
and since Gokuu also claims to have beaten Tao-pie pie, really wants to
face him in the ring.

Kuririn and Gokuu celebrate, gloating until Jackie comes up and
states that Panputto wasn't in the same class of fighting as them, and
it's nothing to get excited over. Then it's time for the next round and
the announcer calls out Jackie's and Tenshin's name. When the match
starts, Kuririn expects Jackie to win easily, but Gokuu knows that
Tenshin is really strong. The boy can't say who will win. The two
fighters are about evenly matched, then Jackie tries a trick that
Tenshin recognizes as "One Pattern." However, Tenshin's third eye lets
him find the real target over the illusions. Jackie tells Tenshin to
attack, and the other guy says "Can you see the real hands, old man!?"
When they separate again, Gokuu knows that this is a great fight, the
audience is stunned, Tenshin thinks that it's time to show his real
power, and Jackie believes that although Tenshin is strong, he's not an
experienced fighter.

Jackie asks Tenshin why he has trained under Tsurusennin, and Tenshin
replies that his master is not merely a bad man. Then, Tenshin says
he's about to get serious now -- Jackie doesn't know what this means.
People scream in pain as he unleashes Shintsurusen-Ryuutaiyou (New Crane
Blinding Light.) While Jackie is blinded, Tenshin drops him (afterward,
he says that since he's not a killer, Jackie isn't dead.) The announcer
describes the events, saying that Jackie is unconscious and starts the
count. But, Jackie stands up. Gokuu's eyes start to recover, Jackie
says that people should stop calling him an old man, Tenshin wants to
know who Jackie really is, and Jackie replies that Tenshin has a lot to
learn (badmouthing Tsurusennin.) This makes Tenshin mad. In the next
lull, Jackie asks if that's the best Tenshin can do. They taunt each
other some more, and Gokuu realizes that the announcer's sunglasses work
against Tenshin's light attack. Jackie asks Tenshin if he enjoys
training under a man like Tsurusennin, and the other master suddenly
telepaths a message to Tenshin that Jackie is really Kamesennin.
Ten says he's going to show Jackie something interesting, and the old
man asks if Tenshin has etchi magazines. Tenshin tells him to shut up
and watch him start up with Kamehame-ha. This could kill people, so
Jackie deflects the blast safely. (Gokuu is impressed, Kiririn and the
announcer are stunned.) Tenshin says that Kamehame-ha is easy enough to
do, but Dodon is stronger. However, Kamesennin simply says Tenshin
knows lots of tricks, and it's been fun. Then, jumps out of the ring to
forfeit the match. Tsurusennin thinks that the other old man was afraid
of losing, and is happy; but Tenshin knows better and can't understand
why this happened. Jackie is taking an "oh well, that's show biz"
attitude.

Round six is about to start, and Kiririn suddenly realizes that he
has to face Gokuu. Gokuu promises to try his best, and wants Kiririn to
do so, too. Then, the announcer wants them to come out, and Kiririn
challenges his friend. Their friends give them encouragement, Kiririn
tells himself that he CAN win, both of them say that this will be fun,
and Tenshinhan asks Kamesennin "why?" Why did Kamesennin disguise
himself to fight? The old man replies that the two boys needed
guidance, and he'd stuck around as long as he was better than them.
Which causes Tenshin to assume that since he beat the old man, the two
boys are no problem. The old man says, "you're a bit wrong."
Then round 6 starts. Kamesennin explains that he doesn't like
fighting against people that have bad training. The other guy says he
was trained by the world's greatest assassin, Tao-pie Pie, which
Kamesennin says proves his point. Gokuu and Kiririn fight, then pause
to comment on each other's improved speed and strength, while the
audience goes "wow..." Kiririn uses his shiny head to blind his friend,
and gloats over the victory until Gokuu lands and waits for Kiririn to
join him (and be vulnerable to a punch.) Gokuu says he's going to win,
but Kuririn's blowfish imitation postpones the victory. They both say
that this is fun, then attack again. Outside the ring, Kamesennin is
berating Gokuu for not taking this seriously. Gokuu uses Kamehame-ha to
super-propel his body into Kiririn, which knocks the other boy down for
the count of three. Kiririn gets up ("owie owie owie") and attacks
again. He knows he can't win with speed or strength, so he starts
Kamehame-ha, but Gokuu just tells him that he doesn't want to use
Kamehame-ha himself, but would rather fight with the power of his body.
Kiririn grins and completes the blast. But, the attack was a feint to
let Kiririn grab Gokuu's tail. The boy gloats out load about this being
Gokuu's only weakness and Gokuu collapses. Then gets up again ("My tail
was with me for the last three years, and it got stronger along with the
rest of me.") This concerns Kamesennin, because the boy doesn't have
any weaknesses any more. Except for being easily tricked ("Huh?")
Gokuu gets a little more serious, and disappears (which shocks
everyone except Tenshin.) There's a loud drumming sound coming from the
ring, and Tenshin knows that this is Gokuu jumping left and right so
fast as to be invisible. When Gokuu reappears right in front of
Kiririn, the element of surprise sends the boy out of the ring. Gokuu
wins, but the crowd just stands there, trying to figure out what had
just happened. Tenshin, Tsurursennin, and Kamesennin just get lost in
their own thoughts.

Going into the final round, the announcer asks if Gokuu wants
anything, and the boy replies, "no." So, the announcer yells out that
the last round is starting, people yell out encouragement, and both
sides say that this will be fun. The announcer welcomes everyone to the
main event of this, the 22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai, and re-introduces
Kamesennin's Son Gokuu, and Tsurusennin's Tenshinhan. Kamesennin wants
to get closer to watch the fight, and finds Kiririn, who says that this
area is only open to the fighters. Kamesennin tells him that they'll
watch from here together. Chao-zu wonders who will win, and Tsurusennin
won't rest until the killer of his little brother loses. It starts, and
they fight until Tenshin uses Dodon. Which just causes Gokuu to use his
disappearing act again. This time, though, his opponent can see where
he is. Kamesennin remarks on how Tenshin's punches sound like a machine
gun, and Kiririn calls out Gokuu's name. Finally, Tenshin says it's
ended, and he hopes that Gokuu will like it in heaven.

Chao-zu is overwhelmed, and Tsurusennin is glad that the boy will be
dead soon. But, instead of delivering the death blow, Tenshin practices
Haikyuu-ken ("volleyball technique,") and spikes the boy into the
ground. Tsurusennin says "he's dead..." Then Gokuu hops up, and the
old man shouts "im... impossible!!!" Gokuu says that he's glad Tenshin
is so strong. Then, Gokuu describes "shiai power,"the rush that you get
in combat when someone tries to kill you. Tenshin is intrigued, and
challenges Gokuu to show him this thing. So, Gokuu does. At the end,
when Tenshin is most vulnerable, Gokuu starts his Kamehame-ha, but then
stops it in the middle. The man lands, and Gokuu asks him how he feels.
Tenshin says that he can feel the power from the crowd, and Gokuu
understands. Kiririn wants to know why his idiot friend stopped the
Kamehame-ha, and is told that Gokuu has learned to conserve his energy
from the last Tenkaichi-budoukai.

The announcer is going wild describing the fight. Then, Gokuu
announces "fist from above," which leads to: Attack from behind, Behind
attack from behind, to Behind the Behind attack from behind. Gokuu is
stunned that Tenshin can still stand. And, it's now time for the
Taiyou-ken again. Tenshin lunges while Gokuu is blinded, but can't
believe that he's the one who's been dropped. (Gokuu took the glasses
off of Kamesennin's face.) The count starts, then, when Gokuu thanks
the old man for the sunglasses, Tenshin blindsides him.) ("You really
are a bastard.") The glasses are busted. Now, it's time for both of
them to get serious.

Without the glasses, Kamesennin reminds Kiririn of someone he's just
seen. The old man tells the boy to shut up and watch the match. Gokuu
comes in with the attack, but he freezes up, and gets dropped. Gokuu
curses, and Tenshin is wondering what happened. (Kamesennin thinks that
Tsurusennin has something to do with it.) They try again, and
Tsurusennin says, "Now," and Chao-zu responds. Gokuu freezes up and
gets dropped again. He almost gets knocked out of the ring, and uses
Kamehame-ha to save himself. The process repeats itself. The announcer
starts the count. Tenshin can't believe this. Tsurusennin thinks out
"kill him, kill him, kill him!!" Tenshin doesn't want to win this way
(through cheating,) and the count is up to six. But, this is not a
matter of honor, it's a matter of destroying Tao-pie Pie's killer. At
the eight-count, Tenshin shouts out "Stop it!!!" Chao-zu loses his
concentration, and the announcer is confused. Gokuu gets up, leaving
the announcer more confused. Gokuu wants to drop the bastard, but
Kamesennin calls out to him to wait. Tenshin says that he can't kill,
that he's not an assassin. This is an act of treason, and Tsurusennin
tells Chao-zu to kill both fighters. But, Tenshin is Chao-zu's friend,
so Tsurusennin gets ready to kill the little kid. Tenshin yells out
Chao-zu's name, and is told to move. Kamesennin's Kamehame-ha blast
whips by and knocks Tsurusennin out of the city.

With that out of the way, the fight can continue. But now, Tenshin
can't possibly let himself lose, and he prepares for his next big attack
(Chao-zu thinks he's going to use a different attack, and tells his
friend not to do it.) Tenshin says that he's not a killer, and Gokuu
allows that the guy may not be all bad. As Tenshin grows another set of
arms (and everyone wonders what he's trying to do,) Chao-zu is relieved
that he isn't doing Kikouhou. The extra set of arms impresses Gokuu,
and they start again. The extra set allows Tenshin to control Gokuu's
arms and legs. But, not his tail. Tenshin comments on this, and Gokuu
replies that while Tenshin had 4 arms, Gokuu has 8 (he uses the same
high-speed fighting technique that Chapa had in book 10. This surprises
everyone but Kamesennin, who is pleased.

Tenshin gets roughed up, and is losing patience with "the shrimp."
So, he loses the extra arms to concentrate on his real, final technique.
He will kill Gokuu. Chao-zu screams out "Kikouhou -- Ten-san, stop
it!!" [Note: That between page 165 and 167, the dialogue is changed, but
two of the panels are duplicated exactly.] Kamesennin also realizes
what's happening, and thinks that Tenshin plans on a suicide attack.
Kiririn asks what's going on, and Kamesennin answers that Kikouhou is a
very powerful attack, but if you make even the slightest mistake, it'll
kill both your target, and yourself. But, Tenshinhan reassures Chao-zu
that he's not planning on dying. The announcer goes wild describing the
events, and Gokuu says that he's not going to run away from this attack,
causing Kamesennin to call him an idiot. Tenshin gets ready to go, and
Gokuu waits for it.

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 12

The audience wonders what's going on, and Chao-zu yells out "Ten-san,
don't die!" Kiririn asks if Gokuu will be killed, and Kamesennin
answers that even if he isn't, Gokuu will be disqualified for landing
outside of the ring. Tenshin's hands start glowing with the power
channeled from his body (which impresses Gokuu,) and he concentrates on
the fighting ring, then calls out "Kikouhou!!!!" Gokuu doesn't know
what to do, Kamesennin tells him to avoid the blast, and Chao-zu prays
to god. When the crowd's eyes recover, the fighting ring is gone, and
no one can find Gokuu. Then, Chao-zu says that both of them are still
alive. Tenshin realizes that he has to climb higher up. Gokuu is more
impressed, and realizes that Tenshin had tried to kill him. But,
Tenshinhan can float, and the ring is now gone, so when Gokuu lands it
will be outside of the ring, and he'll lose (Ten wonders if the boy can
grow wings quickly.)
However, while Tenshin had used up everything he had in the Kikouhou,
Gokuu still has one attack left -- Kamehame-ha. Which is fine by
Tenshin, because he can handle the blast and still float while Gokuu
still falls. Everyone thinks that Gokuu is wasting his time, but the
boy turns around at the last moment, and uses the blast to smash himself
into Tenshin. This Tenshin can't handle, and the two fall at the same
rate (Kamesennin is surprised, and Tenshin realizes that he's blown it.)
The announcer uses a capsule to make a flyer-cycle so that he can keep
an eye on the two fighters. Gokuu will hit the ground first, so he
musters the last of his Kamehame-ha power to slow his descent just
enough. The announcer is describing this, and Yamcha cheers from inside
the hospital. Then, the Matodog truck rolls down the street, Gokuu
slams into it, and then into the ground. Tenshin touches the ground
second, and wins the match. The announcer then says "farewell until the
next time in 3 years," to the departing crowd.

Kiririn gives his good jersey to Gokuu, commiserating with him.
But, Gokuu isn't angry (a loss is just a loss.) Tenshin wants to split
half of the prize money with Gokuu, who turns it down because money
doesn't mean anything to him. Tenshin knows that he has a lot to learn,
and Kamesennin suggests that they have supper (which makes Gokuu very
happy.) Tenshin says that he'll pick up the tab, Kiririn replies that
he doesn't know how much Gokuu can eat. As they're about to leave,
Gokuu realizes that he's forgotten the Dragon Ball inside the Budoukai
building. Kiririn goes inside to get Gokuu's stuff. The group wastes
some time talking about what they want to do next, then Kiririn screams
out. Inside, Kiririn is lying on the ground, dead.

The announcer weakly tells the group that a monster had killed
Kiririn, taken the Dragon Ball and the list of people that had entered
the Tenkaichi-budoukai. Gokuu demands the Dragon Radar, and rushes off
while calling for Kintoen. Kamesennin tries to stop him, but it's too
late. The Ball is close, and Gokuu chases after it. Kamesennin rages
-- if the creature could kill Kiririn so easily, it could do the same to
Gokuu. Oolong finds a sheet of paper left behind by the monster -- it
is marked with the kanji "ma" ("magic.") Kamesennin hears this and
rushes over. People ask him why he's so shocked, and he says that this
means the Demon King Piccolo is back. They ask who this guy is (Kushami
says that Piccolo is a stupid name,) but Tenshin knows that Piccolo was
really bad, a long time ago, before being killed. Kamesennin
acknowledges this.

[Flash-back] The name "Piccolo" is cute, but it identifies a
creature of great evil. Mutaito-sama, at the time (which was a LONG
time ago) had been a teacher with two pupils -- Kamesennin, and
Tsurusennin. Mutaito-sama had managed to use a magic wind to propel
Piccolo into a Denshi jar, trapping the demon king. But, the spell he
used took too much out of Mutaito-sama, and he died right after (the
men standing over Mutaito-sama's body are his two students.) The Denshi
jar was then thrown into the depths of the ocean. Chao-zu can't believe
that Tsurusennin might have rescued Piccolo, and Kamesennin reassures
him that someone else must have done it. However, Yamcha points out
that since Piccolo did kill Kiririn and take the Dragon Ball, what will
happen to Gokuu is... Kamesennin finishes "Gokuu will die." The group
puzzles over what to do next (they want to help Gokuu, but have no way
to track him), and Kamesennin wants to know why Piccolo wanted the list
of Budoukai fighters.

[Note: Much of Dragon Ball is based on the old Monkey King stories,
meaning that many of the big events are twists on the old
plots. The bit with the Denshi jar refers to a bag of wind
that some of the old gods had used for trapping victims.]
On Pilaf's aircraft, Piccolo asks Pilaf what the wish is he wants to
make. Pilaf asks to be made ruler of Earth, but is talked down to
ruling only 1/4 of Earth. Piccolo, however, wants the Balls so that he
can be made young again (apparently, he'd aged a lot inside the jar.)
He also takes his wrath out on the jar, and says that all of the
Tenkaichi-Budoukai fighters will feel his power (Pilaf responds, "Good
fighting...") Then, Kamesennin suddenly realizes that Piccolo wants to
kill off anyone strong enough to use Mafuu-ba (Magic seal attack,) which
had sealed Piccolo in the jar so long ago. The announcer understands,
because the Budoukai weeds out the lesser people. Tenshin wants to know
if this means that the best of the Budoukai fighters will be killed.
Meanwhile, Gokuu has found Tambourine. Seeing the Dragon Ball, he
goes crazy, accusing the monster of killing Kiririn ("Kiririn? The brat
was no challenge.") Gokuu vows to kill the monster in revenge, but is
still weak from the budoukai. After a bit of insulting, the monster
destroys Kintoen, and then smashes Gokuu Earth-ward -- the creature
enjoys killing things. Back at the Budoukai, the group has gotten
worried, since Gokuu is late in returning. They argue over whether to
wait some more, return to Kame House, or confront Piccolo (Oolong is
relieved, because he's not a fighter, and Piccolo won't try to kill him;
but at this point, Buruma might.) Of course, going to the police is out
of the question, and alerting anyone else would just cause panic. So,
they have to take things in their own hands, and the announcer says that
they really are the best people in the world. Oolong curses, because
his future looks bleak, and Kushami says EVERYONE's future looks bleak
right now.

Tambourine returns with Gokuu's Dragon Ball, and Piccolo marvels over
it. Tambourine also has 10 years worth of names of the people that made
it to the final rounds of the budoukai. He's told to post the pictures,
and Pilaf wants to help. When the creature comes to Kuririn's sheet, he
crumples it up, and asks if that really was one of the world's best
fighters. Mei finds Gokuu's sheet, and Pilaf reads it (made it to the
final rounds, twice. Of course, this is why he's so strong.) But, the
monster looks over, and says that he killed that guy, too. And, since
it was so easy, he tells Piccolo that the remaining victims will be no
challenge. Piccolo laughs, then says that because of Mafuu-ba, he wants
everyone of the Budoukai fighters dead. And he wants the Dragon Balls,
too. In a huddle, Mei and Shuu suggest to Pilaf that maybe this isn't a
very good situation, and that Pilaf's half of the world domination might
be in danger.

Piccolo repeats his instructions to Tambourine, and his advisor asks
about the search for the Balls. In the face of possible dangers,
Piccolo allows that he needs another minion -- and spits out an egg
(looks rather painful and distasteful. Note that while the egg seems to
come from his stomach or chest area, this is not physically possible
later on in volume 14.) Piccolo decides to name his baby demon
"Cymbal," and gives the creature instructions to retrieve the remaining
six Balls. He also asks Pilaf where the next Ball is, and Pilaf points
it out on a globe-shaped Dragon Radar. Cymbal studies the map, and
Tambourine chooses to attack Namu, who currently lives in Siam. Shuu is
worried, and Pilaf tells him to keep his voice down, saying that
everything will be all right.

The group has told Tenshinhan about the Dragon Balls, and they
consider the idea of getting all seven to wish Kiririn back to life
(Oolong thinks that they might be a bit late when that happens.
However, Buruma has put the body in a storage capsule, and wants to
know if Oolong wants to join Kiririn ("I'm still alive.") Then
Kamesennin says, "Hmm... They're blue." "What, our next plan?" "No,
Buruma's panties." After getting beaten up for letting his mind wander,
the old man says that there's some danger in getting the Balls. Then,
Kushami tells them to watch the TV, which is describing the discovery of
Namu's body in his home, and the piece of paper placed beside him with
the kanji "ma" on it. They realize that it's started. But, if they ask
for help, or let the news leak out, there'll be useless panic.
Kamesennin asks Buruma how long it'll take her to build a new Dragon
Radar ("half a day, if I hurry.")

They rush off, and wonder what Gokuu's fate is (they hope he's still
alive, but they have their doubts.) In the jungle, Gokuu comes to -- in
pain and very hungry. He smells food and runs to find it. The cooking
fish is like a dream to him, and he quickly finishes it off. Which
leaves him happy, and fully recovered. He yells for Kintoen, but the
cloud had been destroyed. He's more intent than ever on finding the one
who'd killed Kintoen and Kiririn, and stolen the Ball. Planning on
following on foot, he uses the radar to locate the #4 Ball. Which is
right next to him. Looking for it, he suddenly has to dodge the boulder
thrown at him. He shouts for the bastard to come out, and the shaggy
guy that appears asks who's calling him a bastard. He accuses Gokuu of
eating his fish, and Gokuu had thought it'd been just growing there
("you ate my breakfast!!!") Gokuu accuses the guy of being the monster
that stole the Dragon Ball (because it is hanging on the guy's chest.)
They call each other names (winged monster, fish thief) and attack.
During the next lull, they both think "who is this guy." Then, Gokuu
realizes that the Ball has the wrong number of stars, and asks when the
guy had found it ("three years ago.") He apologizes, but the guy still
wants to settle the matter of the fish. Gokuu grunts, and the guy asks
why. "It's not a 'fish grunt', look."

This is the monster that beat up Gokuu, and he's looking for this
thing called a Dragon Ball. Cymbal asks if the guy had seen it, and the
guy just insults him. Then Cymbal sees the Ball and demands it. Gokuu
tells him not to hand it over, and the guy says he won't. Cymbal gets
ready to kill the guy, and Gokuu says "hey, this is my fight." Gokuu
says that the monster had killed his friend, and the guy just wants to
kill Cymbal to have him for breakfast. Cymbal doesn't care who he
fights first. The guy and Gokuu decide via scissors-paper-stone, and
the guy wins. The monster tells the guy that he'll regret this, and the
guy says the same thing back. They fight, and the monster gloats until
the guy stands back up, saying "This is one weird day." The guy thinks
about cooking Cymbal, who's disturbed about this form of fighting
spirit. Cymbal gets mad and uses a magic attack. The guy curses, and
Gokuu asks if he needs help (he doesn't.) Gokuu is impressed by the
sword cut. Back in Pilaf's ship, Piccolo feels the shock of Cymbal's
death. He goes into a coughing attack, and his servant asks if he's ok.
Piccolo says that Cymbal is dead, which he can't believe.

The guy makes sure that Gokuu doesn't want some, and then decides
that Cymbal is quite delicious. Gokuu asks his name, and he wants
Gokuu's first. Then, he says "Gokuu" is a weird name, and that his own
is Yajirobee, and he is a monk. Piccolo comments that Cymbal was going
after the Dragon Ball when he died, and he telepathically commands
Tambourine to check out the site. Meanwhile, Tambourine is beating up
Gilan, while the neighbors watch on. Gilan tries to put on a good show,
but fails. Gilan makes 6 dead, and Yamcha will be number 7. However,
he gets this message. He gives Piccolo the status report, and is
praised for his work. However, Cymbal is dead, and he should find out
what happened. In the ship, Pilaf is wondering why the weird demon king
is whispering to himself (Mei tells him that this is telepathy.)
Tambourine says that he understands and is on his way.

Yajirobee is still commenting on how good Cymbal tasted, and is still
hungry. Gokuu says that the man is in danger, and also realizes that
the other man's voice sounds just like that of his dead friend, Kiririn.
Which annoys Yajirobee, but if this Kiririn sounds like him, the guy
must be good looking ("No, he's short and has no nose." "He's a
monster!!") Yajirobee starts heading off to find another monster to
eat, and Gokuu says "see you again!" This stops Yajirobee, who doesn't
want to meet the boy a second time. Gokuu warns him about the Ball
again, and the guy wants to know what's so special about it. Before
Gokuu can get too far, he's interrupted buy the appearance of
Yojirobee's next meal. Gokuu realizes that he'd been wrong, and that
Tambourine is the one he really wants to kill. He yells out, and
Tambourine sees them. Yojirobee says it's ok to kill the monster, as
long as he's the one that gets to eat it. Then Tambourine recognizes
Gokuu.

Tambourine and Gokuu banter for a while (about the killing of Kiririn,
and how Gokuu will be next,) before the demon tells the boy to come on.
However, he's never seen One Pattern before, and is so confused that he
gets really trashed. Yojirobee just stands there, and Tambourine gets
back up, to Gokuu's annoyance. The monster can't believe that a human
could stand up to one of Piccolo's minions. Tambourine thinks that his
breath-blast has killed Gokuu, but that didn't happen. He tries to
escape, and Gokuu uses his bo to give him some altitude, and follows it
up with Kamehame-ha. Tambourine's death is even more painful to Piccolo.
On the ship, the demon king and his minion are getting excited over the
recent events, and Pilaf asks who on Earth is that strong. Mei answers
"Godzilla?" Piccolo tells Pilaf to take him to Tambourine's last known
location -- he has to see this killer for himself.

Piccolo fumes about his loss, when Pilaf notices something. Four of
the Balls are heading towards a fifth one. Piccolo's not the only one
going for the Balls.

Tenshin comments on how easy it was to get the first four Balls.
They talk about what happened in the last few chapters, and Tenshin
wants to beat Piccolo. Problem is, if they use the wish to make him
stronger, they'd have to wait a year to revive Kiririn. Tenshin wants
to learn to use Mafuu-ba, and Kamesennin tells him that it's out of the
question. (However, Tenshin thinks that the old man might try to use it
himself.)

Pilaf is afraid of what's going to happen if someone gets the other
Balls, but Piccolo reminds him that they're useless without the one he
has. He'll worry about that problem later, after he's dealt with the
killer of his children. Yojirobee wants to know if anymore suppers are
going to be coming for his Dragon Ball, and Gokuu says that the next one
is very close. They look around for it, but don't see anyone coming
towards them. Until they glance upward and see Pilaf's ship. Mei's
voice booms out to Piccolo that they've arrived, and Shuu tells her that
she's thrown the wrong switch -- that one's for the outside PA system.
Then she tries it again and gets it right. Yojirobee repeats Piccolo's
name, and Gokuu realizes that the demon king is the one who sent out the
other monsters. But, Yojirobee is about to remember something, and
suddenly, he recalls just who Piccolo is. He rapidly gives Gokuu the #1
Ball. Gokuu wants to know why the guy is giving away his treasured
possession, but doesn't get a good answer. The guy runs off, despite
the imminent appearance of supper.

Below them, Pilaf spots someone moving, and wants to know where to
land. Piccolo doesn't care. Then Pilaf gets a good look at Gokuu and
stammers out "it's him." Then he tells Piccolo that this is the shrimp
that keeps beating them out of the Dragon Balls. So, this is the one
that faced Tambourine and Cymbal -- he'll now face Piccolo's wrath.
Gokuu accuses the monster of killing his friend and taking the Dragon
Ball from him, and the monster acknowledges this and wants the Ball that
Gokuu now has. Hiding behind a tree, Yojirobee recognizes Piccolo.
Piccolo wants his revenge, and Gokuu says that Piccolo will be next.
This amuses the monster, and Gokuu attacks -- Yojirobee expects the boy
to die now.

Piccolo is surprised at how fast Gokuu is. Pilaf is watching this,
and wants them to escape from that little monster. Further, Yojirobee
can't believe that Gokuu has lasted this long. The servant tells Pilaf
to quit trying to run away, and watch. Piccolo hadn't expected anyone
on this planet to put up much of a fight, and is amused. Then he gets
serious. He wants the boy to surrender, but he gets his thumb bitten
first. Gokuu finally realizes that he's out-matched, and Piccolo says
that at this point he himself only has half of his original power
(because of his extreme age.) Gokuu extends his arms, and Piccolo is
terrified that the next attack will be Mafuu-ba. Instead, it's
Kamehame-ha. Gokuu thinks that he's won, but is wrong. Piccolo isn't
impressed by the attack, and decides to kill the boy. Gokuu wants to
win, and Yojirobee thinks that he should go out and help soon (but not
just yet.) Piccolo asks Gokuu if he'll like the next attack, and Gokuu
tries to understand this. Our hero dodges the first blast, but gets hit
by the second. He falls, lifeless, to the ground.

Piccolo and his servant are happy, Pilaf and Shuu are stunned by the
monster's power. He returns to the ship, triumphant. It is now His
Time. They leave to get the other 5 Balls. Yajirobee comes out, and
decides not to eat Gokuu. But, the corpse twitches, and Yojirobee hears
a heartbeat. He slaps the boy, who starts to cough and then asks for
water. At the river, the guy tells Gokuu to drink his fill. After,
they both agree that this is a bad situation, and that Gokuu is
powerless against the monster. Gokuu asks Yajirobee to take him to
Karin Tower (pronounced "karin tou", or "Clint", and Yajirobee wants to
know who Clint is.) Yaji agrees, as long as he gets fed along the way.
Meanwhile, Chao-zu finds the 5th Ball, and Kamesennin discovers that
the remaining 2 Balls are coming their way -- obviously, Piccolo is
approaching. Gokuu thanks Yajirobee for helping him, and the guy says
that he just really hates dead things.

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 13

Pilaf notices that the five balls are moving, and Piccolo wonders if
someone's going to try to take the two away from him. Kamesennin wants
to find a good place to fight, and says that his wish for Shenlon will
be to have Piccolo permanently destroyed. At the same time, Yajirobee
is driving Gokuu to Karin Tower. They talk about how the Dragon Balls
work, and Gokuu keeps telling the driver to head more to the left. And
Piccolo dreams of getting his youth back.
Kamesennin finds a good place to fight, they turn the plane back into
a capsule, bury the Balls out in the open, and then the old man tells
Chao-zu that if Piccolo makes Shenlon appear, he should shout out the
wish. He also wants Chao-zu to hide in one place, while he and Tenshin
hide together in a different location. Pilaf says that the Balls have
stopped moving, and Kamesennin says that Piccolo's getting nearer. Mei
tells Piccolo that they've arrived. Tenshin wonders if the Balls will
be kept on the ship. They both curse when they watch Piccolo swallow
the Balls for safe keeping. This means that they have to free up the
Balls first, and Tenshin gets ready for a fight. However, Kamesennin
says that he's drunk an immortality water and therefore can't die, so
he'll do the fighting. Then he sprays Tenshin with a paralysis gas.
Next, he tells Tenshin that there is no such water. But, this is
something he has to do himself. He shouts out a reminder to Chao-zu,
then steps out to challenge Piccolo. Piccolo loves a good fight, so he
takes the challenge. The old man discloses where he'd buried the Balls,
and says that Piccolo has to fight him to get them. Which the demon
king finds hilarious. They banter for a bit, until Kamesennin states
that his master had been Mutaito-sama, and then throws out the Denshi
Jar capsule.

This is the one thing Piccolo fears, and Tenshin realizes that if the
old man uses Mafuu-ba, he'll die. Kamesennin starts the spell, but
Piccolo's servant is the only one on the ship who understands the
danger. The demon king tries to escape, and the old man yells out
"Mafuu-ba!!!!" It looks bad for Piccolo, except that this is a very
hard spell to control, and Kamesennin's aim is a little off. Uttering
his regrets, he dies. A long ways away, Gokuu feels a strange sensation
hit him, but he doesn't know what it means. Back at the fight site,
Piccolo's gang all gloat, and Piccolo gets the Balls. This is his day
for youth and power.

Mei, Pilaf, and the servant cheer on the demon king as he summons
Shenlon. The sky turns black, Tenshin curses his paralysis, and Shenlon
appears. Piccolo is impressed. Tenshin uses ESP to tell Chao-zu that
he can't move, and that Chao-zu must make that wish. Piccolo starts
out, as Chao-zu interrupts him. But, Chao-zu is killed before he can
finish the wish, and Tenshin curses a lot. Shenlon asks for the wish,
Piccolo asks for his youth. He is now back to full power.

The sky has gone black, which means that Piccolo has gotten all seven
Balls. Gokuu curses this, and then points out the Tower ahead of them.
At the ship, the group applauds their leader. Then, as Shenlon says
goodbye, Piccolo kills him. The servant is the only one not shocked by
this. The sky clears, and the Balls fall to the ground -- nothing more
than inert rock, now. Which means that Piccolo is safe from any
conceivable attack.

Gokuu's Dragon Radar has lost trace of the Balls, which confirms his
worst fears. The camp is deserted at first, but Upa comes running out
to greet his friend. Bora asks Gokuu what had happened to him, and
Yajirobee wants to find something to eat.

Now that Piccolo is back at full power, he will become ruler of the
Earth. Pilaf asks for some little share -- 1/5th, even 1/10th. Piccolo
tells Piano to bring up Mei and Shuu so that he can repay his friends.
He then tells them to disappear, as he has no further use for them.
Pilaf nervously says that this is a good joke, to which Piccolo replies
that he's not the joking type. As ruler of the Earth, he doesn't need
them anymore, and he asks if they want to die. Pilaf and crew are
ejected from their own ship.

Gokuu has told Bora why he needs to get to the top of the Tower, but
since he's in no shape to climb it himself, he asks Yajirobee for help.
The monk refuses, until Gokuu says that there's a room at the top of the
Tower, with this great food called "Senzu." Senzu is a weird name, but
what the heck. Food is food. Bora promises to help them, too. And, we
get to see that Pilaf really isn't dead. Mei complains that their
fortunes that at their lowest ever. Bora prepares to throw Yajirobee,
Gokuu thanks the Indian, and Upa wishes them well. Even this far up,
the top of the Tower can't be seen, which bothers the monk, who starts
racing up it.

At the King's Castle, home of the Emperor of the World, Piccolo
arrives uninvited. The guards try to turn him away, but he just calls
them "annoying insects." Back on the Tower, it is nightfall and
Yajirobee wants to know how much farther he has to climb (Gokuu tells
him to not give up.) Piccolo meets the biggest guard so far, but isn't
impressed with the guy's punch. He asks the guy what the Emperor's name
is, and the guy refuses to answer. So, he dies. The next guard is more
helpful, and he tells the demon king that the emperor is at the top of
the west building. Piano notices the Emperor trying to escape in a
flyer, and Piccolo goes to meet him. Finally, Yajirobee can see the top
of the pillar. But, Gokuu is asleep and can't join in the rejoicing.
On the flyer, Piccolo announces himself as the new Emperor. One
guard objects to this, and finds out two things: bullets can't hurt this
monster, and that guards can't fly. The Emperor asks for Piccolo's
demands, and he replies that it's simple -- he wants the Emperor's aid
in taking over the world. The Emperor of course says that's impossible.
So, Piccolo wipes out an entire section of the city. The Emperor then
capitulates and the demon king laughs insanely.

Finally, Yajirobee had made it to the top of the Tower. Gokuu thanks
him for it. Gokuu and Senpyou exchange greetings, and it turns out that
the cat already knows everything concerning Piccolo -- he was watching
it from the top of the Tower. Gokuu needs help, and he gets a Senzu
seed. Hearing the name, Yajirobee stuffs a handful in his mouth, upset
with both the quality and quantity. The monk moans in pain as Gokuu
explains that munching on one seed is like eating 10 days worth of
meals. However, Gokuu is surprised to find that's he's fully recovered,
himself. Senpyou explains that one extra benefit of the Senzu is full
physical healing. The boy wants to receive more training, but Senpyou
can't help him -- Kamesennin is dead. Gyokuu starts to run off to kill
Piccolo, knowing that he won't succeed. Since the the boy is so
determined to to face death, Senpyou offers the option of Choushin-sui
(super god water.) Choushin can give one super strength. Gokuu can use
this, and the monk asks where it is. Senpyou says that he has some
here, but... after drinking it, the water can overwhelm and kill you.
They ask how many people have tried it -- 14. None have survived.
Gokuu will drink the water. Yajirobee tries to talk him out of it,
but Gokuu insists. Especially since no one else can even try to stop
Piccolo. Gokuu repeats that he'll drink the water, and he doesn't plan
on dying. It smells bad, and the little taste Yajirobee takes nearly
kills him. Gokuu gulps it down, and screams in pain. The monk tells
him to throw up. Gokuu yells out that he won't die.

Back at the old combat sight, Tenshin is unsuccessfully trying to
master Mafuu-ba. But, he won't quit and therefore let his two friends
down. He tells Piccolo to watch him.

After 6 hours, Gokuu still hasn't died. The power of his god surges
through him, and stuns Senpyou with it's strength. Finally, Tenshinhan
gets the Mafuu-ba wind to land in the Denshi Jar, and he wants Piccolo
to wait for him. Gokuu sits up, and the others cheer him. Gokuu can
feel the power coursing in him. Racing in the jet, Tenshin calls Kame
House and stammers out that Kamesennin, and Chao-zu are both dead.
Piccolo got his wish to become younger. The turtle can't believe that
his master is dead. Tenshin continues, stating that the bodies and
Dragon Balls are located at BFK 2235. Yamcha wants him to return to the
House, but Ten replies that he's mastered Mafuu-ba. The House wants him
to wait until the others can be revived. Then, Oolong tells them to
watch the TV. The Emperor comes on, telling everyone that Piccolo is
their new Emperor. He pleads for help, and Piccolo indicates that the
old dog has said enough. Piccolo introduces himself as the world's new
leader. Tenshin knows that he has to go to the King's Castle.
As the new Emperor, Piccolo wants to have some fun (and get rid of
the horrific words "Heiwa" and "Saigi.") He bans the police and will let
all of the criminals out of jail. Kushami thinks that this isn't all
bad. On the Tower, Gokuu realizes that his power comes from his heart.
Yajirobee doesn't think Gokuu looks any different. The boy stares out,
and says that Piccolo is in that direction. Senpyou can't believe that
Gokuu can see that far. He's about to leave, and the cat wishes him
good luck. Senpyou also wants to give him something good. The cat
yells out "Kintoen!!" Gokuu is surprised. Seems that Kintoen likes to
travel in large packs. The boy asks if the monk wants to ride with him,
and the answer is "I don't want to die!" He thanks them both for
everything, and wants them to stay well. Senpyou tells him to not die,
and then Gokuu pets his new Kintoen before flying off. Yajirobee likes
this, and asks if he can ride one too. Senpyou thinks that MAYBE he
can...

Piccolo has decided to play a game. There are 43 districts. To
commemorate his becoming Emperor, he's declaring this "Piccolo Day."
So, every year on this day, he will draw a number, and then destroy the
matching district. He will do this for 43 years. If anyone tries to
fire a missile at the King's Castle, he'll kill everyone. Along the
way, Tenshinhan vows to stop the monster with Mafuu-ba. Then, Piccolo
draws number 23 -- which is where Buruma's family lives. Buruma rushes
to the radio and pleads with Tenshin to go ahead and use Mafuu-ba -- she
promises to use the Dragon Balls to bring him back to life afterwards.
Tenshin says that he's been watching the TV too. But, they won't be
able to make anymore wishes of Shenlon, as the Balls are just pieces of
stone, now. The people at Kame House don't understand, and he tells
them that Shenlon has been killed as well. Oolong panics as he realizes
that none of his dead friends can be brought back. Then Tenshin sees
the castle. Yamcha decides to go attack Piccolo, too.

Tenshin and Piccolo see each other, and Tenshin issues the demon king
a challenge. Piccolo decides to accept it from this idiot, and descends
to the ground. He waits for Ten, who is gloating over having a surprise
for him. Then, Tenshin notices the tear in the Denshi Jar, and realizes
that his last practice run must have caused the damage. Piccolo asks
what's wrong, saying that the western district needs destroying.
Tenshin decides to continue with the attack, without Mafuu-ba. They
banter a bit, and Piccolo decides that the new Emperor himself shouldn't
have to get his hands dirty. So, he spits out another egg, and calls
the new creature "Drum," because of it's great strength. Tenshin calls
the thing a monster, and waits for it to attack. Drum is to finish this
fight quickly, because Piccolo is a busy man. Gokuu is getting closer.
Tenshin wants the fight to be between him and that killer Piccolo, and
attacks Drum. The fight is about even, and Piccolo is amused. Drum
asks Tenshin if he wants to give up, and Ten refuses. Then Drum states
that the fight is over and blind-sides the hero. Piccolo tells his
creature to rip out Ten's heart, which Drum is happy to do. Ten swears,
full of regret at having lost. Then, everyone is amazed at who shows up
to save the day.

Ten is glad that Gokuu is still alive. Gokuu notices that Piccolo's
face looks different, and the demon king replies that he'd gotten his
youth back. And will get his revenge again, too. Ten yells at Gokuu to
escape while he still can. Piccolo tells Drum to kill the fool. Drum
dies. (Note: This time, Piccolo doesn't react when one of his babies is
killed -- either it's because he's younger now, or Toriyama forgot about
that part.) And Tenshin can't accept that the boy standing in front of
him is the real Gokuu. Piccolo and Gokuu promise to kill each other.
Meanwhile, the Kame House group is splitting up: Oolong and company
are to pick up the bodies of Kamesennin and Chao-zu, and get the Dragon
Balls. Yamcha, Kushami, and Buruma will attack Piccolo. Kushami can't
wait to get started, and Buruma says that it's a good thing Ranchi isn't
along (Note: In Japan, when someone talks about you behind your back, it
will cause you to sneeze.) Kushami sneezes, and Ranchi gets confused.
Then she squeals out about the picnic they must be going on.
Piccolo decides to fight Gokuu, but because the western district is
waiting for him to destroy it, he will only spend 5 seconds on killing
the boy. (The little note at the bottom of the page calls attention to
the fact that Piccolo has one extra finger, for this one panel.)
Tenshin comments on Gokuu's stopping the first blow. Gokuu beats on
Piccolo, then says that the 5 seconds are up. Piccolo gets serious, but
asks what the hell Gokuu is, when the boy doesn't die.

Gokuu says that he'll resolve this with his own attack, and Piccolo
is amazed that anyone would want to face his wrath. Gokuu's one punch
sends Piccolo into Piano, killing the servant. Gokuu had moved so fast
that Tenshin couldn't follow him, and the triclops can't understand how
this could be. They trade more blows. In the next lull, Piccolo is
fascinated that the boy is this good, and Gokuu wants the monster to
fight at full power (Tenshinhan thought that that WAS full power. Gokuu
promises to fight at full-strength, too. Piccolo powers-up, and Tenshin
can't believe it. However, Piccolo thinks that Gokuu's power level hasn't
changed at all. The demon king waves his arm, and Tenshin is amazed by the
force of what is just a practice swing.

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 14

Piccolo is laughing, and Gokuu comments that the monster's power
really is impressive. But then, so is his own. They banter a little,
and fight again. (Note: While Gokuu is tumbling horizontally from the
blow, the crater could only have been made if he'd fallen straight down
from a very great height.) Piccolo gloats over Gokuu's death, and
Tenshin prepares to fight next. But while they're talking, there's this
muffled voice in the background ("Ka. Me. Ha. Me.") They both notice,
and then Gokuu leaps up to yell "Ha" -- but Piccolo's seen this trick
before and prepares to block it. Gokuu shouts "Now" and shows that
Kamehame-ha can be controlled for non-linear motion. "Did it!" Tenshin
didn't know you could do that with Kamehame-ha, and Gokuu tells Piccolo
to stand up (the Kamehame-ha wasn't full-strength.) Piccolo calls Gokuu
a monster again. And they return to the fighting. Tenshin remains
stunned. At the next lull, the triclops cheers on Gokuu.
In the castle, the ex-Emperor's people are just noticing the noise
coming from outside. One guard states that Piccolo isn't at the Western
District, yet. They run to the windows to watch. Piccolo gets an
eye-beam attack in against Gokuu's knee, and gloats. But, Gokuu says he
doesn't need that knee to keep on. Piccolo laughs and gets ready to
swing, when Gokuu tells his bo to extend. The ex-Emperor is impressed,
but his guard tells him that it's dangerous here, and they should move
to a safer place. It's Gokuu's turn to gloat, and the monster complains
about the bo.

And, some distance out, Yamcha says that they'll arrive in 10 minutes,
and hopes that Tenshin isn't dead yet. Buruma wants Tenshin to fight
well, so that the western district won't be destroyed. Then the
announcer comes on TV and states that there's some fighting at the
King's Castle -- between Piccolo and a young boy. Buruma wonders if
Gokuu is alive after all, and Yamcha doubts it. However, Uranai Baba
had stated that Gokuu would go on to do a great thing, and maybe this is
it. Yamcha and Buruma believe this option, and cheer on Gokuu.
Piccolo starts powering up again, and neither of the two good guys
know what's happening (other than it's a lot of power.) The monster
uses a finger blast to knock away the bo, which is all he wanted to
accomplish. Yelling "It's over," he blows up the block. On the plane,
the TV station has gone off the air, and Buruma points out the cloud
ahead of them. The Emperor has managed to escape the blast, but he
mourns the loss of this district. Piccolo laughs insanely -- he has
won. But, he suddenly notices a flash of power, and looks around for
it. There's a laugh from above him, and he sees Tenshin holding the boy
aloft. Gokuu thanks Ten for rescuing him. But, Tenshin has been hurt
very badly. Piccolo knows that Ten can't do this again, so Gokuu will
die soon. But, Gokuu says he still has a chance. Piccolo doesn't
believe this, since the brat has a bum knee, no bo, and Tenshin is
exhausted. As the monster readies another explosion attack, Gokuu
attacks him. But, the punch isn't strong enough, and Piccolo completes
the blast. Now, it's really over.

At the bottom of the pit, there's this faint voice calling for
Kintoen (Gokuu had been able to shield himself from most of the force.)
This blows Piccolo's mind. No human can stand up to his power. Gokuu
tells him that his tail should prove that he's not human. But, he wants
this decided now, as to who is actually stronger. So, Piccolo grabs out
to the side, and lifts Tenshin up by the head. If Gokuu moves, Tenshin
dies. Ten tells the boy to attack anyway, and then screams in pain as
Piccolo starts to squeeze. Gokuu tells him to stop, and will do as the
monster says. "Don't move." The first rock takes out Gokuu's left arm.
Then they yell at each other, and Gokuu promises to use the Dragon Balls
to wish things better. But, Piccolo now tells him that Shenlon is dead.
Does the boy really want to risk Tenshin's life by risking Piccolo's
wrath? The second rock takes out Gokuu's good leg. Piccolo likes
Gokuu's show of spirit, but loves the fact that Gokuu can't stand up
now. He doesn't need Tenshin any more, and tosses the triclops away.
Piccolo laughs insanely, gloating over how it's all going to end now.
He leaps into the air to kill Gokuu. He yells out "Die!!!!" Gokuu
yells out that he still has one attack left, and uses his good hand to
perform a version of Kamehame-ha. He'll win with one good fist.
Piccolo readies for pay-back time (for the death of this children.) The
power from the Choushin water startles Piccolo, and Gokuu wins.
Piccolo can't believe that this is happening to him, but has time to
spit out one last egg (and tells the child to grow up to avenge him.)
Then he explodes. (Note: Just exactly how does Piccolo create these
eggs before spitting them out?) Gokuu has no power left, and falls
helplessly to the ground. Tenshin calls out "Son!!", but can't save the
boy. However, Gokuu looks up at the one that does catch him and says
"Yajirobee..?" Ten asks if they know each other.

Hiding behind some rubble, Yamcha and Buruma are nervously discussing
the latest explosion, and wondering how dire the situation is.
Yajirobee is annoyed because he missed the fun. Tenshin is impressed
with Gokuu's performance, and the boy says that his body is all banged
up. Although Yajirobee offers to carry them both in his car, Tenshin
refuses, stating that he has to return to Kame House and tell people
what happened (the monk wonders if the triclops is really ok.) Ten
tells Gokuu to get well fast, but Gokuu wants to know if Kamesennin is
really dead -- yes, Chao-zu and Shenlon, too. But because of Gokuu, Ten
is still ok. Then, Tenshin says they'll meet again at the next
Tenkaichi-budoukai. Waving, he thinks that Gokuu is truly an impressive
brat; the other two ride off. Yajirobee is commenting on the
destruction of the city, and wondering who really won. Then, Tenshin
finds Gokuu's staff and decides to take it for safekeeping, when Yamcha
pops out asking where Piccolo is. Later, Tenshin has told the others
what had happened, and Buruma calls the TV station to let everyone still
living know that the terror is over. But... while peace and harmony
threaten to return, baby Piccolo is vowing to kill his father's
murderer, saying "I hate peace."

Back at Karin Tower, Gokuu is amazed that the Senzu seed has healed
him so quickly. But, Gokuu's going to need his powers, because it's not
over with Piccolo, yet. Yajirobee doesn't believe this, since Gokuu had
destroyed the monster. But Senpyou tells him about the baby. So, they
need to get the Dragon Balls right away. (Gokuu asks if Senpyou knows
about the Dragon Balls, and the cat says that there's nothing he doesn't
know.) Then the monk asks if he knows that Shenlon is dead -- he has
trouble believing that. Gokuu curses, because if Shenlon were alive,
the others could be wished back. Yajirobee says that's the way it goes
-- sickness and death happen. The cat basically agrees, and Gokuu gets
angry with the situation. Then, Senpyou remembers that there is ONE
person who can fix the Dragon Balls -- the other two ask him who this
is, and he answers "Kami-Sama."

This bugs Yajirobee, since he's a monk, and this is like saying that
the best doctor is time (i.e. -- it's a meaningless statement.) But,
Gokuu wants to know more about this Kami-sama. The other two tell him
that Kami-sama is very strong, and can do anything. However, you have
to be pure of heart to see Him, which leaves Yajirobee out. Gokuu wants
to know where to find Him, and Senpyou replies that His quarters are
above Karin Tower. They check outside, and there's nothing above them.
Can't use Kintoen, because it's too high up. The monk suggests using a
rocket. Gokuu's running out of choices, and asks if he has to jump up.
Senpyou says that the only way up is to use Gokuu's expanding staff
(which Kamesennin had taken from its place, a long time ago.) Then they
discover that the bo is missing -- this is really serious. Yajirobee
suggests that it was left at the fight site, and Gokuu calls for
Kintoen. But, the bo isn't where he left it, either. The boy is going
crazy, when he remembers that if you have a question you can't answer
yourself, you go to Uranai Baba. Which he does.

Quickly, Gokuu asks Baba where his bo is, and tells her to bring on
her five fighters so he can beat them up right away. But, Baba is
afraid of Piccolo herself, and her little brother's future is at stake,
so she answers the question for free -- it's at Kame House. Gokuu can't
believe this, but he thanks Baba and rushes off. Baba says that Gokuu
really is what she'd predicted. At the House, Gokuu bursts in, shouting
"where's my bo!?" Everyone is happy to see him, but he doesn't have
time for greetings. Grabbing the bo, he tells them that he's going to
Kami-sama's to have all of the dead people brought back to life. After
leaving them, the group says "What'd he say?" "Something about back to
life, and Kami-sama..." He rushes back, shouting that he has the bo.
They go upstairs, and Senpyou gives him instructions (plus, the cat
wants a bell given to Kami-sama.) But, Yajirobee is afraid that if
there really is a Kami-sama up there, that Gokuu might blow it all by
acting rudely. Senpyou replies that that won't be a problem. But, the
other two don't really understand that answer.

The two are worried about how Senpyou worded the answer, and he tells
them that there will be a little test, first. Gokuu gets ready to go,
and Senpyou wishes him LOTS of luck... Then the staff expands.
Yajirobee says that Gokuu is a scary guy, and Senpyou is afraid of what
will happen when the boy sees Kami-sama's face for the first time.
After a long time (the bo has never been able to expand this far before,
must be the fact that this is its one real purpose,) a shrine is
visible. The bo stops expanding just as it reaches the matching hole
for it. Gokuu notices the ladder and clambers up.

The boy sees a strange black man in a turban and they greet each
other. Gokuu asks if the guy is Kami-sama, and the reply is "Wrong.
I'm Mister Popo, Kami-sama's servant." And continues saying "You're the
one that defeated Piccolo." Gokuu asks how he knows this, and is told
that Kami-sama knows everything. Gokuu notices the building in the
background and asks if that's Kami-sama's house. Popo asks if Gokuu has
something for him. Gokuu pulls out the bell, and Popo tells him that
its time for the test -- Gokuu has to fight Mister Popo before he can
meet Kami-sama. Gokuu thinks that this is simple enough, and is told to
come and attack, as the test has started. The boy hopes to surprise
Popo ("Oh, he's disappeared. Is he 'here?' [smack]) Popo isn't
impressed, and asks if Gokuu had really defeated Piccolo. This makes
Gokuu mad, and he attacks again. Popo says that he wins, so Gokuu can't
talk to Kami-sama. This pushes Gokuu over the edge, and he uses the
Choushin power. But misses. Popo states that Gokuu doesn't have any
remarkable powers, so there's no point to continuing the test.

Popo tells Gokuu to return to Earth, but the hero is desperate to
bring his friends back to life, and decides to start on some special
training up here (Popo tells him to do as he likes.) After running,
Gokuu's head is pounding. Popo tells him that it's because of the
altitude. But, Gokuu's doing it wrong, he has to be like the sky, like
the lightning (which he things means moving fast.) Popo says that his
heart has to be empty, so Gokuu tries to be just like Popo. Which is
hard. Popo states that the lightning is faster than Gokuu, and he
demonstrates. Gokuu couldn't see him move, and Popo calls himself
great, then states that Gokuu had tried watching him only with his eyes
(which is why he failed.) Popo continues -- he's learned a lot of
things from Kami-sama. Kami-sama is great, therefore Popo is great.
Popo predicts that Gokuu will be able to beat him sometime, but he
doesn't know how many years it will take.)

There's a feeling of power in the air, and a voice states that Gokuu
can meet Kami-sama after all, which is lucky for the boy (he thanks the
voice.) He's told to wait outside the house, and he says that his heart
is pounding. The door opens and out steps Piccolo.

Gokuu attacks. Popo catches him on the rebound, stating that this
isn't Piccolo, it's Kami-sama. Turns out that Kami-sama and Piccolo are
the same person. Some time ago, the previous god had died, and it was
this guy's turn to take up the role as Kami-sama. (I'm not exactly sure
about this part.) Kami-sama says that when he became Kami-sama, Piccolo
was born from the evil that was stripped from him. Because of Gokuu's
willingness to take on special training, Kami-sama will help him, but
Shenlon is the only one that can bring people back to life. So,
Kami-sama has to resurrect Shenlon, first. Popo is told to bring Shenlon
out, and then put the statue together again (Popo says that this task is
simple.) Kami-sama explains that Shenlon was created to give people on
earth something to do (more or less,) and that the key is the assembly
of the Dragon Balls. When the statue is completed, they stand back, and
Kami-sama activates Shenlon -- who rushes out of the top of the case and
appears at Kame House.

Because the Balls were turned to stone, the one year requirement
between wishes doesn't apply. But, Gokuu can't leave to see his
friends, because he must stay to train for the next Tenkaichi-Budoukai,
3 years away. Because, Piccolo will be attending that budoukai.
Kami-sama explains what had happened just before Piccolo had exploded.
So, Kami-sama offers to allow himself and Mister Popo to fight Gokuu as
part of extra special training. Gokuu promises to train really hard.
But first, he needs to use the toilet. Popo says that since Piccolo and
Kami-sama are the same person, if Piccolo is killed, Kami-sama will die
too. But, it can't be helped.

At Kame House, everyone is happy to see that Shenlon is back. The
Dragon King explains that Gokuu is with Kami-sama, and was responsible
for reviving him. For various reasons, they won't be able to meet
Gokuu again until the next Tenkaichi-budoukai. Shenlon also knows what
the wish is that they want to make -- bring the ones that Piccolo had
killed back to life. He does this, then the Balls fly off. Kiririn and
Kamesennin are glad to hear that Gokuu had saved them, but when they're
told that the boy is in heaven right now, that can only mean (according
to the old man) that Gokuu is receiving special training from Kami-sama.
Kiririn has the most trouble handling this idea, but Tenshinhan looks
forward to going up against Gokuu (with the expected increase in Gokuu's
power and skill) in the next Tenkaichi-Budoukai. After Tenshin says
this, everyone else agrees with the idea. The next few panels show the
group training -- Gokuu trying to become perfectly still, Tenshin and
Yamcha fighting. Kiririn thanks his friend, and looks forward to
meeting him again.

Three more years pass.

Ranchi is complaining about how everyone is late. Buruma arrives in
a taxi, saying that it's been a long time since they've seen each other.
Kamesennin is impressed with how the girl has grown. Apparently, Buruma
and Yamcha have had another fight, as Yamcha hadn't been at the west
district, which is where Pool and Oolong met Buruma. Kamesennin looks
forward to seeing Yamcha and Kiririn after so long, and Gokuu after the
3 year period. Then, a strange voice calls out, but neither Kamesennin
or Buruma know this guy. The guy says he's happy that the old man is
alive, and that everyone is looking healthy. He asks where Tenshin,
Yamcha, and Kiririn are. Very slowly, people recognize him, and he
asks them what's wrong. The rain stops, and Gokuu takes off his turban.
He asks if Buruma's red lips mean that she's sick, and she angrily
replies that it's lipstick.

Kiririn, Chao-zu, Tenshinhan, and Yamcha show up, and greet the
group. Everyone has changed since they last saw each other. Gokuu asks
if Kuririn's been doing ok, and Kiririn stammers "Go, Go, Gokuu..
Gokuu...!?" Kiririn is overwhelmed with emotion, but Yamcha and Tenshin
still can't believe that this is Son Gokuu.

The PA announces the start of the Budoukai, and Gokuu asks if
Kamesennin had brought their fighting uniforms (douji. Of course, he
always does.) The old man tells them to fight well, and then Tenshin
whispers a question (is he going to fight again this time? The old man
says that he is going to pass this year. Obviously, no one else knows
that he is Jackie Chan, even after all this time.) Buruma has developed
a crush on Gokuu. As they walk to the changing rooms, Gokuu is asked
if he'd really been trained by Kami-sama ("Yes. He's great.")
Everyone is happy to be wearing their uniforms (the kanji is "kame"
-- turtle.) Then, Yamcha notices that Gokuu's tail is missing. It just
fell off one day -- he doesn't need it for fighting any more (which
bothers Kiririn and Yamcha, who'd probably counted on grabbing it at
some point.)

The two guys want to know why Gokuu's gone stiff suddenly, then they
look over to see Piccolo Jr.

Yamcha and Kiririn don't recognize the demon king's child, but
Tenshin does. Gokuu thinks to himself that Piccolo actually did arrive
at the budoukai. Tenshin asks if that really was Piccolo, and Gokuu
says yes, but that there's nothing to worry about. However, Yamcha,
Chao-zu, and Kiririn didn't hear the other two talking, and aren't let
in on who the strange guy was. Then, a hand taps on Gokuu's shoulder,
and the beautiful woman standing there smiles and says his name. Gokuu
asks who she is. She calls him an idiot and stalks off.

Yamcha and Kiririn want to know who the cute chick is, but Gokuu
really doesn't have a clue. Kiririn gets angry, because Gokuu has all
the luck (training with Kami-sama, meeting pretty women...) Then, the
PA announces the rules -- same as before. 72 fighters this time.
Tenshin wants to know why Piccolo has chosen to fight in the budoukai.
As they pull their numbers, Tenshin telepathically tells Chao-zu that
it's ok to put people in different blocks (so that they're not fighting
Piccolo, or each other, right away.) Gokuu is #2, block 1. Kiririn
notices the pattern, and Chao-zu flashes us a peace sign. The floor
judge gives the normal rules, and starts the match between Gokuu and
person #1. As Gokuu gets into the ring, Kiririn tells him that he wants
to see a sample of Kami-sama's special techniques.

The first fight is with Chapa-Ou -- the guy that Gokuu had defeated
in a previous budoukai. Chapa-Ou is looking forward to the rematch (he
recognizes Gokuu right away.) They start. Gokuu just stands there, and
everyone gets angry with his lack of spirit (apparently, their friend
plans on losing the fight.) Chapa-Ou kicks, then tries to discover
where Gokuu has disappeared to. He thinks the guy is above him (that's
what had happened last time.) Gokuu taps Chapa-Ou on the back of the
neck, and wins by a knock-out. The rest of the group is impressed, the
audience is stunned. Piccolo knows that the demon king is going to win
the budoukai. And, he expects to have lots of fun.

We get to see Tenshin, Yamcha, and Kiririn all win their matches. But,
Chao-zu blacks out, drops, and loses. Tenshin rushes over to help
his friend. Chao-zu's opponent gleefully says that the boy is dead.
Ten angrily rears back to attack the last person he'd ever expected to
see standing in front of him -- Tao-pie Pie is back. He gloats, then the
referee wants Tao to move, to let the next match start. Kiririn is
getting annoyed over the number of people Gokuu knows that he doesn't.
Gokuu replies that Tao-pie Pie is an assassin, the younger brother of
Tsurusennin, and Tenshinhan's and Chao-zu's sempai (someone they looked
up to.) Tao states that he has come back as a cyborg (which makes him a
lot stronger.) Tao also hopes to fight Gokuu in the Budoukai (and get
revenge.) After that, Tao wants to repay Tenshin for the triclops'
treatment of his older brother. (Ten stammers out that he isn't guilty
of anything.) But, Ten will fight to avenge Chao-zu, which Tao looks
forward to.

#51 (Piccolo) easily wins his match. The heroes fret over this.
However, Gokuu isn't worried. Gokuu taps his man, and wins by knocking
the guy out of the ring. The others are all shown winning their right
to advance to the finals round (Piccolo wins because his opponent gave
up.) Kiririn tells them to watch Tao-pie Pie, whose fighting spirit
comes from wanting to kill the heroes. Then, the girl they'd seen before
wins her match. This leaves one last fight. Kiririn had heard about
the one guy on the morning radio. The nerd rushes the masked blimp,
obviously asking to be pummeled senseless. The blimp regretfully
prepares to do the pummeling. The nerd trips, stands up, and knocks out
the blimp. Everyone laughs, and the announcer tells the winners to
gather to hear the rules for the main tournament. Then, Yajirobee takes
off his mask, and curses. He dresses and acts philosophical.
As the announcer looks over, he sees Kiririn, and immediately screams
and starts praying for the ghost to not haunt him. Kiririn has to
explain that he's not dead. The narrator sets up the next chapter as
the winners draw numbers to establish their places in the final rounds.

The final line up is:

Tao-Pie Pie Vs Tenshinhan
Gokuu Tokumei Kibou (the mysterious girl)
Majunia (Piccolo) Kiririn
Shen (the nerd) Yamcha

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 15

The group is talking about how Yamcha, Kuririn, and Gokuu have made
it into the finals, which make it everyone but Chao-zu, who'd been
defeated by Tsurusennin's little brother, Tao-pie Pie. Kamesennin is
surprised, thinking that Gokuu had killed the assassin, but Kuririn
explains that Tao is back as a cyborg. Yamcha is afraid that Tao will
kill Tenshinhan (his former ally,) but Gokuu reassures them that
Tenshin will be ok. Then, Tsurusennin shows up, laughing at the
surprise on their faces. They threaten each other, and Tsurusennin
leaves, claiming that the Cyborg Tao-pie Pie will defeat Tenshinhan.
Buruma thinks that the old man was uppity, but Gokuu agrees that Tao is
indeed impressive. Then, the PA announces the start of the finals, and
the fighters go to the circle while the rest give them encouragement.
Buruma wonders why Kamesennin is commenting on being able to watch this
Tenkaichi-Budoukai (he's always fought in the previous ones,) and Oolong
complains about not being able to see the ring. Buruma convinces Ranchi
to help them get through the crowds.
Kuririn is asking about Tenshin's chances against Tao, and Gokuu
replies that Tenshin is really good. However, the Triclops looked a bit
tired, so Gokuu tells the other two about this one thing that's like
eating 10 days' worth of meals -- but Kuririn tells him that he, Yamcha,
Tenshinhan, and Chao-zu all have Senzu seeds themselves -- all of them
have climbed Karin tower to visit Senpyou. This makes Gokuu happy.
However, Kuririn is commenting on Yajirobee's having come only to watch,
and the monk steams over having lost in the elimination rounds. Then,
the announcer welcomes everyone to the final rounds of this, the 23rd
Tenkaichi-budoukai. The first round is between the reigning champion,
Tenshinhan and Tao-pie Pie.

Gokuu gives the reluctant fighter encouragement, and Tao promises to
only half-kill the triclops. Kushami doesn't want Ten to lose, and the
first round starts. However, Tenshin easily evades the first attack,
and drops Tao with a light tap. Tao laughs it off, and Ten asks him to
stop the harassment. Tao thinks Ten is afraid of him, but Tenshin shows
that he is faster and says that he's stronger than the assassin. Tao
doesn't believe this, either, and keeps attacking. In the next lull,
Ten asks Tao to understand that he doesn't want to fight against
Tsurusennin's family, but that he doesn't plan on losing, either. Tao
accuses Ten of kidding around, and detaches his hand to attack with
an extended blade. The announcer disqualifies Tao for using a weapon,
but the assassin tells the guy to shut up, and he's not going play fair
while killing Tenshinhan. Tsurusennin yells out to kill Tenshin, too.
Gokuu, Yamcha, and Kuririn plan on helping out, but Ten stops them,
saying that this is his problem to solve.

Tao's other arm contains a cannon with a Super Dodon attack.
Kamesennin tells the triclops to escape, while Tao describes the power
and fury of Super Dodon -- and that there's no use in trying to run away.
Ten's energy scares off Tao, who leaps back to put more space between
them, before firing. Tsurusennin shouts out "Die!!!!" But, Tao can't
believe that the Super Dodon was stopped by Ten just using his Kikai (the
shout you make when punching or kicking someone.) While Tao is trying
to understand this, Tenshin knocks him unconscious. Gokuu states that
he knew the triclops was impressive, being able to drop Tao with one
blow. Ten gives the body to the terrified Tsurusennin, and tells his
ex-master to please stop bothering him and his friends. The old man
flies off with his brother, promising revenge. Gokuu congratulates Ten,
who's not in the mood for that. Kamesennin is pleased with Ten's
behavior, and Kuririn is surprised at how strong the guy is.

Then, the announcer introduces round 2, between former fighter Son
Gokuu and the female combatant Tokumei Kibou (means "anonymous desire".)
Gokuu still doesn't know why she's angry with him, and thinks that she's
mistaken him for someone else -- but there is only the one Son Gokuu.
No one else knows who she is, either, but Kamesennin likes that fact
that she's very cute. Then round 2 starts. Gokuu asks if they'd really
met before, and she goes on about taking a "maiden's heart," and
breaking their promise. Gokuu doesn't remember any promise, and
Kamesennin recognizes her attack style as being from his own school.
Gokuu asks what the promise was for, and the girl tells him "to be your
bride." The others repeat "bride!!!?" Gokuu asks what "bride" means.
Kuririn angrily yells back that it means Gokuu is supposed to get
married to the girl. Gokuu still can't remember this, and the girl says
that she'll tell him if he wins. He asks for her name, but that has to
wait, too. This is when Oolong gloats over knowing who the girl is,
stating that Yamcha, Buruma, Kamesennin, and Pool had all met her at the
same time. Gokuu warns the girl that he's going to attack, and she
dares him to. But, Gokuu is a lot faster and stronger than anyone
expected, and he blows her right out of the ring. Winning his round.
The announcer doesn't understand what happened, and Kamesennin explains
that it was the force of the air that hit her. Gokuu asks if the girl
is ok (she says "ow ow ow,") and Piccolo Jr. has noticed that Gokuu's
attack is very close to his own style (i.e. -- Gokuu has trained under
Kami-sama.) The girl crawls back into the ring, and states that she is
the Magical Cow King's daughter, Chi Chi.

The group is stunned, except for Oolong, who gloats over being right.
Gokuu remembers the scene from book 2, and now realizes "bride" isn't a
kind of food. He says "sure, let's get married," and Chi Chi latches on
to him (he objects to this part,) as the announcer yells out that the
two fighters are going to get married. Chi Chi replies that it's a
"husband and wife" thing. Gokuu takes a moment to warn Kuririn about
the next fight.

The announcer introduces Kuririn and Ma Jr. (Magic Junior). Kuririn
calls the demon a "prissy bastard," and Ma Jr.'s reply of "small fry"
amuses Kuririn. The little guy's attack form has everyone bewildered,
before he releases a pair of energy blasts. Ma isn't impressed, but
becomes very surprised to find the blasts following him. Ma gloats
after taking out the blasts with his eye-beams, not noticing Kuririn
getting ready to punch him. Gokuu is impressed.

The announcer is surprised that Ma Jr. can levitate. Piccolo laughs
off the attack, making Kuririn mad. The little guy attacks, and Piccolo
tells him to keep coming, before punting Kuririn out of the ring.
Piccolo thinks it's ended, but it turns out that Kuririn had taught
himself to levitate during his recent training. Gokuu is very
impressed, and the announcer comments on this. Piccolo apologizes for
calling him a small fry, and states that he's going to show his real
power -- Kuririn looks forward to this. Buruma is rooting for Kuririn,
but Gokuu warns his friend to be very careful (Kuririn understands.)
Piccolo asks if Kuririn is ready, then plans on not only defeating his
enemy, but the whole world. Everyone waits, Kuririn wonders what the
attack will be, and then Piccolo grabs him with what Tenshinhan calls "a
moving arm." But, Kuririn isn't defeated easily, and Piccolo leaps into
the air after the "stubborn guy." Kuririn realizes that this is his
last chance, and starts up Kamehame-ha. Again, Piccolo thinks the fight
has ended, but gets the blast full in the face. However, Piccolo
announces "Zanzou-ken," and Gokuu yells out "Behind You!!" It's too
late.

Piccolo lands next to Kuririn's inert body, complaining that now that
he's killed his enemy, the fun has come to an end. Then, Kuririn stands
up, only to collapse again and surrender. The announcer goes wild,
stating that Piccolo has won this round. Everyone cheers Kuririn, and
Piccolo thinks that he's unbeatable.

It's now time for round 4, between Yamcha and Shen -- this is the
last of the first round finals, with the winner going on to the second
round. As Shen strolls out, no one can seriously believe that he's a
real fighter (Kuririn calls Yamcha lucky for getting to face such a
wimp.) The fight is expected to go fast, and Shen politely says "glad
to meet you." However, in the crowd, Yajirobee knows better -- that
Shen isn't what he seems. Gokuu also senses something strange about the
old man, but can't say what it is when Kuririn asks him about it. Then,
round 4 starts, and Yamcha lets the guy go first. He apes around a bit,
and crowd laughs at him. Then, charging, Shen trips and falls --
getting in a "lucky" kick. Everyone laughs this off, including Yamcha,
who wants to finish Shen off fast. So, they try again, with Yamcha
attacking, planning on kicking Shen out of the ring. But, the nerd
ducks in fear, getting in another "lucky" blow. Yamcha's friends are
getting embarrassed, and the announcer makes fun of Yamcha. Shen
apologizes and asks if Yamcha is ok. Yamcha pretends that nothing's
happened, and Shen claims that he's going to defeat Yamcha.
Yamcha disagrees, and challenges the nerd to show real fighting
spirit. So, Shen does.

When Yamcha gets back up, Shen explains about the concepts of
movement. Kamesennin wonders who the nerd is, and Yajirobee thinks
"See, he IS good." Yamcha allows that the guy has a point, and states
that he'll attack with speed, but Shen still claims that he'll win.
Shen likes Yamcha's attack, but reminds the other man that you can use
feet, too. The announcer asks who this Shen is, and Yajirobee replies
that he knows. Shen tells Yamcha to use smaller movements. Kuririn is
shocked that Yamcha's attacks aren't hitting, but Buruma wants to know
what Yamcha's problem is. Kamesennin says Shen is strong, Tenshin adds
that he's fast. Shen gives more advice, and Gokuu is starting to
realize who Shen is. Shen acknowledges that Yamcha is strong, but
that's not enough. He whispers that he's not human -- Gokuu can hear
this, but not Kuririn. Then, Yamcha states that he's going to win with
his final technique. He channels his force into his hand, asks how Shen
likes this, and attacks with Souki-Dan. The attack misses, because Shen
is so fast; Shen is very surprised, and Yamcha asks if Shen is really
fast enough. Yamcha continues the attack, and gloats over hitting Shen.
Shen's counter, however, knocks Yamcha out of the ring.
The announcer states that Shen wins, and Gokuu makes the connection
to Shenlon (Shen is another reading for "Kami") -- and finally it clicks
that Shen is really Kami-sama in disguise. Shen comments on having been
roughed up, and Yamcha and he complement each other. Then, Shen shows
Gokuu that he knows that Gokuu knows.

It's now time for the second round of matches, between the final
four. Starting with the last Budoukai's finalists -- Son Gokuu and
Tenshinhan. The two agree to make an entrance, which the crowd loves.
Kuririn comments on Gokuu's spirit, and Chi Chi asks if Tenshin is very
strong. Tenshin wants to see the results of Kami-sama's training. Gokuu
laughs, and the match starts. They move so fast, even Kamesennin can't
see them. Kuririn and Yamcha can follow the action, which stuns Chi
Chi (she can't.)

Summary of Dragonball: Volume 16

Shen and Ma Junior are trying to stare each other down. Kamesennin
realizes that both are strong, and Yamcha knows that none of them
could beat either of those two. Shen curses the weak human body
he's using, and mentions a debt. Ma picks this up, and asks
about it. Shen tells Ma (in a strange language,) to read his heart.
Then, Ma recognizes Kami-sama, who says that he came to earth to fight
Ma. The announcer tells everyone that the two are talking in a language
that he can't follow. Ma knows that he's safe, but Shen makes a threat
that Ma misinterprets as a suicide wish. Then, Shen pulls out a little
bottle, further confusing the announcer. Ma finally understands, and
Shen invokes Mafuu-ba (Gokuu is the only one who'd never seen Mafuu-ba
before.) However, Shen's human host is weak, and he loses when Ma
responds with Mafuu-ba, himself. Kami-sama is stripped from his host,
yelling to Gokuu. Ma thinks that treating him as being the same as
Piccolo is a big mistake. Shen is unconscious, and Ma Junior wins the
match with the ten-count.
Gokuu is upset that Kami-sama had lost. The announcer asks if Shen
is ok, but when the old man awakens, he thinks that he'd had too much
liquor to drink. Shen runs off to meet his son. But, when the boy says
that his father is a great fighter, Shen is left more confused than
before. The announcer calls a 10 minute break before the start of the
final round, between Gokuu and Ma Junior. Ma doesn't need the rest, and
Kamesennin states that he needs to go talk to Gokuu. Gokuu wants the
little bottle, but Ma swallows it, presenting a problem -- to get the
bottle will require that Gokuu kill Ma. But, if Ma dies, so will
Kami-sama. Ma walks off, gloating.

Kamesennin comes up, wanting to talk, and Tenshin wants to know what
Ma was talking about. Gokuu tells them that Ma is really the Great
Demon King, Piccolo. Tenshin can't believe this, having seen Piccolo
die. Gokuu explains what had happened. But, the group had seen Piccolo
get sucked out of Shen, and into the bottle. Gokuu reveals that that
had really been Kami-sama. And that Ma Junior and Kami-sama are two
halves of the same person -- if one dies, both die. Gokuu asks what
Mafuu-ba is, and how Kami-sama had gotten pulled into the bottle. The
group worries about what will happen now, but Gokuu is confident.
Kamesennin reminds them that Gokuu still has to get the bottle away. Ma
Junior has returned, and reiterates his vow to avenge the defeat of
Piccolo 3 years earlier. After destroying Gokuu, Ma plans on taking
over the world. He laughs maniacally.

Then, the announcer introduces the last fight. Kuririn hopes that
Gokuu will win, but the hero isn't so sure. Chi Chi doesn't want Gokuu
to die before the marriage. So, Gokuu stomps to the ring, determined.
The announcer describes the upcoming match, Kuririn is worried, Ma says
that he'll carry out his resolution, and Gokuu asks "which resolution?"
-- "to kill you."

Then the match starts. After 10 pages of sound effects, Gokuu is
down, and the announcer starts the count. But, Ma tells him to stop
counting, because Gokuu is faking it. Gokuu laughs, and stands up,
noticing that his gi (uniform) has been trashed again. They bluster
some more, as the friends stare on in worry (and surprise at the level
of the fight they're watching.) Kuririn comments on the power of Ma's
techniques. Gokuu disappears again, and not even Tenshin can find him.
But, Ma can. However, Gokuu disappears again, to reappear behind Ma
Junior. Ma's next attack will kill lots of the audience, so Gokuu yells
to them to run. But, there's no time. So, Gokuu leaps up, calling
attention to his new location. Ma calls him an idiot, and fires. Gokuu
blows himself out of the way, and Ma Junior gets pissed at having
missed. Gokuu yells at Ma for endangering the people, and prepares to
use Chou-Kamehame-ha. Tenshin and Yamcha don't know what this is, but
Kamesennin yells for Gokuu to stop, reminding him that killing Ma means
killing Kami-sama. Ma asks what's wrong, claiming that there's
something to be said for being evil. Ma prepares to kill everyone
(Oolong and Buruma hope that he's joking.) Kuririn yells out about
using the Dragon Balls for bringing back Kami-sama later, so don't worry
about killing Ma Junior right now. Gokuu agrees to that. But, Ma knows
that Shenlon was destroyed by Piccolo 3 years ago. Gokuu says that
Shenlon was restored -- the two attackers launch their blasts, with
Gokuu completing Chou-Kamehame-ha.

Ma is taken by surprise, but survives with just some damage to his
clothes. Ma is really pissed now, and WILL destroy everyone. Gokuu
can't believe that the demon had survived. The announcer describes the
attack, and notices something. Without the turban, Ma looks just like...
The Great Demon King, Piccolo.

Ma says that he IS Piccolo. And, after he defeats Gokuu, he'll rule
the world. 2 seconds later, the place is deserted.

The announcer leaps over the wall to continue describing the action,
and Buruma calls him "a real pro."

Gokuu tells his friends to move farther back. Ten commands Gokuu to
not die, and Gokuu says that he won't. Ma blusters some more, then
tells Gokuu to watch the next technique. Ma Junior is now Big Ma, and
he laughs while trying to kill Gokuu. Gokuu's leap takes him the wrong
way, and he knows he's blown it just before being slapped to the ground.
Tenshin wants to help, but Gokuu says that this is his fight. Ma
gloats. Kamesennin is worried, but Gokuu states that it's really a good
thing that Ma has become a giant. Ma doesn't understand this, but Gokuu
continues attacking. So, Ma becomes even bigger. (I love the picture
on page 100. Ma looks very... mean.) Ma asks how Gokuu likes this,
now. Buruma and Oolong run for cover. The announcer describes Ma as a
mountain. Yamcha tells Gokuu to escape, but the hero leaps up and uses
Kamehame-ha to propel himself into Ma's mouth. When Gokuu is spit back
out, he throws the bottle to Tenshin to open. Ma realizes that he'd
been tricked, and Kami-sama is released. Buruma, Oolong, and the
announcer think that they are looking at Piccolo. Kami-sama is filled
in on the details, and Ma Junior is forced to return to normal size
(apparently, with Kami-sama bottled up, Ma didn't have any restrictions
on his powers.)

So, Gokuu and Ma fight again, and not even Kami-sama can see them
moving. Then, they're visible high above the ring. Gokuu is knocked
out of the sky, but uses his feet to fire off Kamehame-ha and continue
fighting. This takes everyone by surprise, but Kamesennin realizes that
there's no reason NOT to use your feet with Kamehame-ha. Gokuu gets
zapped, and is about to be killed when Kami-sama blocks the punch.
Gokuu tells Kami-sama that this is still the budou-kai, and they have to
abide by the rules of the budou-kai, even when the fate of the world is
at stake. Kami-sama fumes about this, but Gokuu tells Ma to continue
the punch. They bluster some more, and Gokuu states that he knows all
of the techniques that Ma can use. So, Ma pulls out a controllable
blast (like Kamehame-ha,) that Gokuu wasn't expecting. He uses 'Ha' to
move out of the way, and then (after Ma tells him that he can't escape)
Gokuu stands and waits for the blast to get closer to him. Then, he
runs between Ma's legs.

Gokuu asks Ma to surrender, having suffered damage to his left arm.
But, Ma is the incarnation of Piccolo (and can regenerate limbs) and has
no intention of surrendering. Ma gets ready to fight back, and Gokuu
tells everyone to run away. Ma's focussed energy impresses Gokuu. And
starts pushing back the others. Gokuu tells them escape -- take a
plane, leave the island. Buruma yells at him for this, and Gokuu says
that he's staying put. Kami-sama tells him to not be stupid, to abandon
the budou-kai and save himself. But, there's not enough time for the
group to flee. So, Tenshinhan uses Kikou-hou to create a large pit for
them to hide in. [Note: When Tenshin used this technique in the last
Budou-kai, it stood a good chance of killing him, but he seems to have
mastered it, now.] Kuririn tell Gokuu to not be unreasonable (stupid,)
which stuns Kami-sama. Kushami tells Kami-sama to not just stand there,
and kicks the god into the trench.

Yelling out "Die!!!!", Ma attacks.

After, he gloats, thinking it's over, but Kuririn yells out, "Gokuu."
Ma Junior can't believe this. Kuririn tells the people in the
rubble-filled pit that Gokuu is still alive. Gokuu claims he'll win
soon. There is cheering, and Ma tells Gokuu to wait, asking what he's
going to do. Gokuu attacks. As he readies Kamehame-ha again, Kuririn
shouts out for people to duck.

Gokuu tells the announcer to come look into the new pit. The guy
asks if Ma is dead, and Kami-sama replies that his continuing existence
is proof that Ma is still alive. The announcer starts counting, and
gets up to "nine." Gokuu lowers his guard, and Ma's mouth blast takes
Gokuu through the chest. Everyone screams, and Ma exacts revenge for
Piccolo. When the group tries to interfere, Ma warns them off -- the
next time, he'll kill them. The fighting continues, and both of Gokuu's
legs get broken. Ma blasts Gokuu's good arm, and gets ready for the
last shot.

Kami-sama tells Tenshinhan to kill him -- if Kami-sama dies, Ma
Junior will die before he can kill Gokuu. It's ok, because the Dragon
Balls can be used to wish Kami-sama back to life, later. But, Gokuu
tells them to stop bickering, because he's about to win.
The group thinks that Gokuu is joking. Then, Ma fires his biggest
attack yet.

Piccolo yells out that Gokuu can't move his arms and legs, and he
fires a major blast at his prey. Kuririn yells out Gokuu's name, and
then Piccolo gloats over the destruction and his triumph over Gokuu. He
claims that he's the greatest, and people stand dumbfounded until
Kuririn asks Tenshin if they see the same thing -- it's Gokuu, heading
on a flat trajectory (the group yells out that Gokuu has learned Bukuujutsu.)
The man yells out "You lose!!!!" and then he hits. Gokuu asks the announcer
if Piccolo is out of the ring -- this is true, and Gokuu wins the Budoukai.
People rush forward, congratulating him, and now that it's safe,
Yajirobee comes out of hiding. Gokuu is asked if he's ok, and of
course, he isn't. But, Yajirobee tells them to not worry, as he gives
the fighter a Senzu seed. Gokuu recovers fully, and leaps into the air
gleefully ("I won, I won") Kuririn and Yajirobee ask each other what
they know about the seeds. Gokuu sees Kami-sama about to kill the
helpless Piccolo and stops him. They argue about this, and Kami-sama
takes the attitude that the world is better off without them. But,
Kamesennin reminds the god that it was Kami-sama that had created the
Dragon Balls, which were responsible for the long chain of events that
had brought everyone together. Kami-sama tells Gokuu that the old man
is ok, and Gokuu agrees, adding that the guy is also a slight pervert.
Kami-sama pays Gokuu back by restoring the man's fighting uniform,
remarking on the fact that Gokuu wears Kamesennin's logo.
Gokuu asks for another Senzu seed, which confuses the monk, who
complies. Then, Piccolo gets better real fast. People flee in panic.
Gokuu states that since Piccolo hasn't died, Kami-sama won't die.
Piccolo comments on the error of this move, Kuririn reminds the demon
about the magical seals, and Piccolo flies off as he tells them that
he'll have fun with them the next time they meet. Gokuu thinks to
himself that Piccolo will get stronger, but that he plans on becoming
even stronger himself. Buruma realizes that Gokuu had grown from a
small boy, into a mountain. Then Chi Chi throws herself on her man,
glad that he's alive -- Gokuu isn't pleased with this display of
affection, and Kamesennin had forgotten about the wedding promise.
Kami-sama is so taken with Gokuu's honesty, that the God suggests
that the man join him in heaven, and become his replacement when
Kami-sama eventually dies. Gokuu considers this a bad joke, and begs
out of it. Chao-zu flies in from the hospital, where he'd been safe,
and is happily reunited with Tenshinhan. Kami-sama keeps pressing Gokuu
concerning his offer, but Gokuu calls for Kintoen, and he and Chi Chi
fly off with Kami-sama and Kuririn calling out his name behind him.
With Piccolo gone, there are 5 years of peace.
